Playing with HDR

So I have been playing with HDR some, and wanted to share two that I shot on Monday.

The first is comprised of three shots of the C&O Canal in Georgetown, while the second is a long exposure HDR, comprised of six shots ranging from 1.6 sec to 6 second exposures of a statue across from the White House.

I think the first one of yours is closest to these.

Nice HDR's! I really prefer the real looking photo HDRs to the cartoon looking ones.

Thanks! I have a lot of learning to do to get results like you see on that page, but its fun. BTW,the second photo was shot at around 9pm with only available lighting, no flash.

Nice HDR's! I really prefer the real looking photo HDRs to the cartoon looking ones.

Thanks J, I too prefer the HDR's that look more realistic although some of the others look pretty neat too.

Photomatix seems easy to use. Almost too easy. I haven't bought it yet because I was waiting to see if there was something better out there.

J, I used Photomatix; I too have tried the HDR in CS3 but I feel Photomatix really does a better job with it.

Photomatix seems easy to use. Almost too easy. I haven't bought it yet because I was waiting to see if there was something better out there.

I got CS3 for my birthday and basically can't find my azz from a hole in the ground. I keep going back to my old program Paint Shop Pro 11.

There are millions of tutorials on how to do different tasks in Photoshop, try googling something you're trying to do.

I bought a huge book on how to use it. It still blows my mind. It's called Photoshop CS3 for Dummies All in one Desk Reference. I am still sitting here I guess it's because I have used Paint Shop Pro for so many years I just can't get used to it. It will sink in eventually.

Mouse, I would really suggest doing like Mr. X said as well. I have several Photoshop book and really haven't used them. I have learned 90% of what I know about Photoshop from tutorials online. It just seems easier to learn that way.

One from yesterday. HDR is a weird way to get an image, there is a differant workflow for every image and its often hard to tell if a subject will work out in HDR.


HDR tips~ Use photomatix , Work in .Tiff or the noise will kill the image. Reduce saturation , Watch out for the haloes , Remember to bail out early if results look poor in photomatix as most subjects suck in HDR.

Psuedo-hdr of an old barn on Rt4, single image converted and tonemapped in Photomatix. Seems that the older version (v. 2.5) cannot open the 14bit RAW files, thus i had to install v. 3.0 to be able to open them. The interface is actually a little nicer too!

Cool stuff time to get my camera out for some HDR. I never tried it but liked the results of others photos.
