Anyone notice how things get quiet for a bit and then Nanuk of the Adolescent North has to start an abuse-magnet thread again? Ya know, when my boy was 15 he was way more mature and way smarter than this kid. Special Olympics? Apparently her brain and her hands/fingers work okay, but there's an attitude and maturity problem there that would land ANYBODY in the Short Bus.

C - why are you sooo upset? So much that you started an entire thread about this... if anything it brings my name up for more ridicule or whatever... just let it roll off your back - BTW, there's worse things you could have been compared too :ohwell: You act like someone compared you to Satan or something... :ohwell: :hyrummph: :drama:

I have lots medals too for somethin other than olympics and so do other folks I'm sure... but you don't see us talking about them all the time... just drink a beer or two and relax. It's not the end of the world.

but it's like they think you are the same person

Its what I think of me that matters... not what folks on here think of me...heck if that was the case I would have ended life back in December 2003. You need to be stronger and have a stronger sense of self than words typed onto an internet forum... yes, its normal if it bothers you a bit, but not to the degree you seem to let it affect you sometimes. Just ignore it and continue to believe in yourself - this is NOT the place to look for validation of self worth - its an inside job.

Canuk - you have autism? My son has just been recently re-diagnosed as having autism as his major disability vice mild mental retardation. What type of autism is it, if you don't mind me asking? I haven't read much that you've written, don't get on here as often, but having seen autism up close and personal, I think it's pretty remarkable that you're on this forum at all and apparently holding your own, even if it is only slightly.

And about the Special Olympics. I don't understand why people on this forum feel the need to dismiss it so much, what a blessing that this organization even exists. It really does provide the means to give this special group of people a chance to learn a sport and feel like they belong. I wish people stop taking for granted how lucky they are to be "normal". My child attends public school and takes gym as required. He's not completely capable of understanding and taking direction. The teacher doesn't have the time to work with him on things that other children take for granted. Take basketball for example, my child is not selected to play, he doesn't understand the art of teamwork but he did take basketball in special olympics. The coach worked with him and he fit in, all the children participating had difficulties and the coach had the patience. It gave my son a chance to feel normal, even if he was not among children considered normal. And yes he won medals, that they do probably to give away like candy, but he showed up at every practice, he did the best he could. This is a big accomplishment for a person with mental and physical disabilities. I'm on a soapbox here I guess, but some people really need to volunteer just one night and see what it's all about before they knock it. Then go home and hug their "normal" children and thank God. Then think twice about what they say.

I agree with most of everything you have posted Dixie.... But, your son has not been on here for a couple of months yelling at the forum members and starting threads on why no one is talking to her. She was advised to lay low a little bit and let things calm down. But then starts more threads or posts to keep up the controversy. After awhile it just starts feeling like finger nails on the chalk board, you know what I mean? She is 15 and regardless of her disability it does not excuse rudeness. She is on an adult board if she feels the need to post on the internet she should act accordingly or she should find a teen forum and chat with her own peers. JMO
