Dixie said:Canuk - you have autism? My son has just been recently re-diagnosed as having autism as his major disability vice mild mental retardation. What type of autism is it, if you don't mind me asking? I haven't read much that you've written, don't get on here as often, but having seen autism up close and personal, I think it's pretty remarkable that you're on this forum at all and apparently holding your own, even if it is only slightly.
And about the Special Olympics. I don't understand why people on this forum feel the need to dismiss it so much, what a blessing that this organization even exists. It really does provide the means to give this special group of people a chance to learn a sport and feel like they belong. I wish people stop taking for granted how lucky they are to be "normal". My child attends public school and takes gym as required. He's not completely capable of understanding and taking direction. The teacher doesn't have the time to work with him on things that other children take for granted. Take basketball for example, my child is not selected to play, he doesn't understand the art of teamwork but he did take basketball in special olympics. The coach worked with him and he fit in, all the children participating had difficulties and the coach had the patience. It gave my son a chance to feel normal, even if he was not among children considered normal. And yes he won medals, that they do probably to give away like candy, but he showed up at every practice, he did the best he could. This is a big accomplishment for a person with mental and physical disabilities. I'm on a soapbox here I guess, but some people really need to volunteer just one night and see what it's all about before they knock it. Then go home and hug their "normal" children and thank God. Then think twice about what they say.
You don't know if you're autistic or not?canuk woman said:i don't know and maybe i will lay low for awhile or better yet start my own personal forum where if people are acting up or being rude i'll just throw them out
vraiblonde said:Canuk, I have a question for you: how did you find this forum? I mean, you're not from Maryland and you're only 15. What made you come to a forum for Marylanders?

No, but he pooped in the cup he came in.canuk woman said:did he have a human finger with him?? just kidding
vraiblonde said:I see. I'm just curious why a Canadian teenager would be even remotely interested in conversing with a group of people she has absolutely nothing in common with.
Canuk, why not just hang out in Tigger's forum instead of throwing tantrums on the main board, which are only going to get you flamed?

She also doesn't exactly fit the age group here. Why do people insist on trying to be where they don't belong? Hell, when my daughter was 15, she didn't hang out with 20-50 year olds.
