Point Lookout Lighthouse Break-in

On December 22, 2013 at around 2 am, the lighthouse was once again broken into by 4 vandals (appears to be 3 males and 1 female). Video of the perpetrators can be seen at:

Point Lookout Lighthouse Breakin 12/22/2013 - YouTube

Anyone who can identify the individuals in the video is asked to call
301-645-0062 (the main DNR number) and leave a message for Officer Darryl Riley, who is investigating the case. Please help us identify these individuals so we can make an example of their crime against our historic structure. Two of the perpetrators have unique hairstyles that should make them easier to identify.

So far, with your help, we have prosecuted 3 individuals and are in the process of prosecuting 2 others. If anyone can tell me the reasons for the breaking and entering, I would love to know. It seems like we grow a new "crop" of late teens early 20's vandals who just have to get in the lighthouse. I know about the most haunted angle, but that doesn't justify all of the damage being caused by the curiosity.

More information about the lighthouse and our preservation efforts can be found on our website at Point Lookout Lighthouse Preservation Society. (The link to the video is also posted on our home page).

Thanks!

Robert

Once again very distinct traits that should make it very easy to identify them... 'tis only a matter of time again. Dayum yoots... when will they learn...

Did that girl just come from a toga party? Me thinks they are begging to get caught.

Seems to be a fad of sorts.

The one time I went 1,000 miles to see that lighthouse (last June), my daughter and I get there only to find it closed and only open one weekend a month.

I guess we should have broken in just to get face time on the security, errrr....cam.:buddies:

Was anything damaged?

The video just shows them looking around

Would it be okay for someone to break into your house and just look around?

I'd bet if you took stills of that video and do a little people watching at SMCM you'd have your culprits very quickly.

Yes, they damaged a door and lock to get into the lighthouse and a few of the security cameras. Some areas of the lighthouse were obviously searched. Don't want to say too much since the case is pending. Our volunteers are getting tired of having to clean up after the thrill seekers.

Maybe they were looking for a Public Rest Room !:killingme

I hear ya! In the off season, all that is available is the port-o-potties which are usually just nasty, not to mention cold!!! The bathrooms get winterized to prevent freeze-ups and, the park doesn't have enough staff to clean them in the off season.
