As cynical as vrai's response may seem to some, I agree with her.
There are clues in this article.
1.) The incident occurred in Santa Ana, Calif. Without the mention of "gang" in the article, it is well known that gangs run RAMPANT there.
2.) A mother’s involvement
To those not in the gang, they wouldn’t understand that the loyalty is to the gang 1st and the mother herself probably grew up being raised by the pack of the gang. To her, it is justice. The person being assaulted most likely is serving some penance for her crime against the “gang.” It could be her or it could have been the boyfriend. It could be a rival gang or it could have been his gang.
3.) The article says "known gang members" but hell, even if that wasn't known, you don't follow strangers into a hotel room, which makes me thinks she knew them and knew them well enough to go in a hotel room with them.
The incident is tragic but so is THAT way of life.
