Thanks all just got another quick update. Grandpa took his first breath on his own while my mom and grandma and uncle were visiting but hes still on the ventilator. He had a set back the other day so probably another 2 to 3 days or so left in CICU. I can't wait til the day he is in his own room so I can talk to him as I asked my grandma to hold the phone to his ear while in CICU and she said they were told they couldnt have there phones on while in the CICU. But when he is in a regular room I can call him at the hospital. I will let you all know how he is doing again later this afternoon when my mom and them go back to visit again and grandpa is getting a surprise my aunt (his other daughter) is going to visit him this afternoon she flew in to be with him today as she didnt go out right before he has his quadruple bypass. I think he will be happy to see her if the nurse lets him come out of being sedated a little while she is there.
Great that your grandpa is progressing. With all the people praying for him, he must have an army of guardian angles around him. :huggy:

I think your right 2a. He might also be fighting as hes got 2 young grandkids that mostlikely wouldnt understand if my grandpa passed away. I have been doing a lot of praying myself. I can't wait for the day that I can see him again.

A quick update from 6pm today. My aunt from NY went to see my granddad tonight along with my uncle and my mom and grandma and they all talked to him etc. He opened his eyes for a brief minute when he heard my aunts voice she said. She also said when they were leaving they said goodbye to him and he raised his arm up. I think there is progress being made here (thankgod). I will find out more after there 730 til 8pm visit but wont be updating this till after I get up in the morning as I am about to go upstairs and relax as today was another stressful day of worrying about grandpa. I think its going to be like this til her comes home though as hes still not out of the woods. I wish he was and I wish he was out of CICU but hes not :( yet and they are saying it could be days they are taking it one day at a time and one hour at a time for now .

In My Opinion
Well, it sounds like he is getting some REALLY GOOD CARE where he is.
God willing, he is going to make it and be back to normal,, no, better than normal in no time at all.

It looks like he is coming along nicely, but, just in case, I will continue to remember him in my prayers.

best wishes to the whole family.

I just got another update this am at 850. They talked to the nurse this am and they said grandpa still has his lowgrade fever (they are just giving him tylenol for it and they arent too worried about it right now). They said they are waiting for the pulmonary doctor to show up to see about taking him off the ventilator as he is at 55 percent oxygen or lowering it more then taking him off we arent sure what is going to happen as of yet. I will get another update after they see him at 1030 this am for there 30min visit. My aunt has been telling grandpa each time she saw him yesterday that the 3 grandkids in NY are sending there love and he opens his eyes and looks at her. I can't wait for him to come off the ventilator and get his butt out of ICU so I can tell him myself. Things look to be going good I hope they continue on this path.

I just got news they are moving him from the cardiac icu to the regular icu guess they have more patients than they can handle there I don't know though. He will still be in the icu. MY aunt said she doesnt think he will be coming off the ventilator today :(.

Have faith JP.
Grandpa's body just went through hell and back. Im sure that the low grade fever is his bodies way of trying to fight whatever just went on in it. It shows that his body is working to heal itself.

how is he doing as far as the fluid goes? has that been taken care of?

oh, and if they are taking him out of the cardio ICU then they are confident that the surgery itself went well. Now the concern will shift to possible infections, or inflamations.

Dont rush to get that ventilator off until he is doing really well, with the added help from it, his body is able to devote more attention to the task of fighting the beating that it just took.

Prayers still coming for him every night and at every meal.

keep us up to date.

I will get another update after they talk to the night nurse in the am before she gets off shift and I might get another update then not sure though. I will keep you all posted and thanks for praying for my granddad and my family. We need all the prayers we can get til we know hes out of the woods.

Sorry I didnt update you all yesterday but I was busy. Grandpa had a pretty good day yesterday he was little more alert and we know his body is functioning with making bowel movements which wasnt doing up til yesterday. My mom said hes also was very sweaty yesterday so they all took turns changing his washcloth in his head and my uncle wiped down his throat area. My mom said the nurse that is taking care of him in the ICU isnt really doing a good job of keeping it so his eyes arent gooped together as hes having a hard time opening them because of it so lastnight when they went to visit him they cleaned them up for him. He also has an infection they tried one antibotic and it didnt respond at all so they are trying a different one now to see if it responds or not that is there main worry now is to get rid of the infection. They still havent taken him off the ventilator and my aunt said if they dont do it in a couple more days hes goign to have a traceodomy (sorry I can't spell that word) done and I am hoping it doesnt boil down to that as my poor grandpa has already been through hell and back :(. I think in another hour I will be getting another update and when I do I will try to update you all.

Here is a quick update all they took my grandfather off the ventilator yesterday so he is able to talk now. They are allowing him to drink a little but still not eat anything as of this am (the feeding tube is still in unless something has changed since this am) I will find out later. He also got up and took about 5 steps then tired out but I bet knowing him he will get up again and do more if he can. He is the one who likes to push himself to the point of exhaustion (thats my grandpa for you though).

We are hoping maybe in this weekend he will be out of ICU and maybe home next week at some point if he keeps progressing hes been in the hospital over 12days now but my mom said the older you are the longer it takes to heal.

Please continue to keep my grandpa in your prayers. I will give another update soon.

Thanks all and god is doing a good job now just if god can get him out of the hospital in less than a week that would even be better but I somehow doubt that is going to happen but atleast if he is out of intensive care I will be happy becasue then I can talk to him and tell him how much I love him. I just keep hoping and praying and that is all I can do.
