Price Gauging

Aside from the fact that her mispronouncing it is either an indication of seriously defective intelligence OR simply reading a prompter on a version of the issue she had not seen before -

Why would anyone fall for this crap? I've actually seen articles from people who SHOULD KNOW BETTER - than inflation is NOT the result of price GOUGING by a collusion of all the world's companies, small businesses, Mom and Pop restaurants, gas companies, landlords, medical industry - they are NOT all in cahoots to stick it to the common person to make the administration LOOK BAD.

For one thing, all it would take is for ONE COMPANY to cut prices to "normal" amounts to corner the entire market - price GOUGING is a BS story that only a left wing person who's never been in private industry could concoct.

Are people really - falling for it?

Because they are told these companies have record profits, and then are demonized for making money. And many do, but that only makes sense if everything costs more in absolute dollars that their profits would have a matching increase to inflation. Add to this that many of these companies are the "cheaper" choice and it makes sense that they are getting more business. Yes, grocery stores make more money when no one can afford to go out to eat.

Unless they can show that profit MARGINS have vastly increased, it's just a bunch of crap.

This drives me wild. Okay, Carmella, it's not "price gauging", it's price gouging. :banghead:

And then rather than correct it in future speeches/reports, they just keep saying it. Trying to make fetch happen. "I can call it 'gauging' if I want :hmpf: "

The answer lies in your FB friends group, if you have Democrat friends. Go look at their walls. Or better yet, post a meme ridiculing it. That smokes 'em out like wood ticks.

If your friends won't bite, take a stroll over to Reddit (aka "Commiedy Central"). Make a new thread in a politics sub and C+V your post above into it. You'll get your answer.

This already drives me nuts -

If you're in an industry that tends to make more in profits every year - then EVERY YEAR has record profits.
It's like the federal debt that goes up every single year - that makes every single year - "record breaking".

But it also ignores other things -

For example - violent crime met its last peak in the early 90's - it's been trending downward for over thirty years AND - the 90's peak was a bump UP from the early 70's when it reached its all time peak. So when they tell you that a crime stat is lower than in X number of years, it doesn't tell you much. A trend that predates anything they do doesn't say squat about what they've done - in Australia, gun crime was going downward BEFORE they banned guns - so - banning probably had no effect on what transpired afterwards.

What they NEED to show is how something they did made a difference, but since you don't know any better, they can say the rooster causes the sun to come up, because he crows at dawn. They passed the Inflation Reduction Act on inflation that was trending slowly downward - and claimed credit for lowering something already self-correcting BY SPENDING OBSCENE AMOUNTS OF MONEY ON THINGS THEY WANTED TO SPEND IT ON.

For your consideration ...

Because they are told these companies have record profits, ....

It really is not profits per se. Though more receiving money/revenue, sure. When the dollar loses its purchasing power via inflation, it takes more of those dollars to buy the same amount of goods. Corporations are extremely efficient at recognizing when there is inflation on the horizon, or when inflation reports are released, and plan and act accordingly, and immediately, by increasing prices to reflect that loss of purchasing power. They also follow closely the actions of the Federal Reserve and other market indicators. Basically they read the financial headwinds tea leaves.

But record profits, nope. Record inflation, yup. Record reckless expansion of the money supply, yup.

Due, I said record profits in absolute dollars. You just took a paragraph to say what I said in like 5 words.

But are they REALLY?

I still think EVERY vote for "not Trump" has always been about - NOT being Trump.

Who honest to God - LIKED HIllary?
Who could name ANYTHING - that Joe intended to actually accomplish and could say I'm voting for the guy who's gonna do this and this -?

Right now, they're feeling "joy" - because the Democratic Party was tweaking the machine to give them - OMG - Biden - again.
And they are SO DAMNED HAPPY -it's not the buffoon who falls down, craps his pants and has no idea what he's saying next.
They actually GET to vote for someone who isn't either an evil witch or a brain-dead cadaver.

Someone brought this up the other night on TV - it is ALWAYS in the best interest of media - to keep an election - close. As long as it is RIGHT DOWN TO THE WIRE - they have YOU, watching them, reading them, clued into them - because if it's a bona fide blowout, they don't matter.

AND - since they're lefties - they have to also make sure their guy wins. Yeah, close - but their guy wins. So, the relationship with Kamala.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really don't think the public is stupid enough to NOT NOTICE she's been in charge of all the failed stuff from Biden's administration - she doesn't get to say hey the border is messed up and I'm gonna fix it - and at the same time say, it's doing great. She doesn't get to say the economy is bad and people are suffering - AND that it's doing fine.

But I think they see Trump as rolling out some horrific version of Project 2025 or some such. They're saying he's going for a federal ban on abortion when he has clearly made his position as against that. They're lying their asses off - and the press is covering for them.

I wish I had a nickel for every pundit and member of Congress or Biden's administration criticizing Trump for something on Project 2025. It's not his, and evidently openly saying, not me, not my ideas just isn't enough.

Maybe the right should print Little Red Books and claim Kamala is a determined Communist - because you know - sauce for the goose.

I encounter "public" people on the internets every single day that are indeed that stupid. Quite.

Someone on Twitter took a democrat troll to task for claiming Kroger's made ' record ' profits over 20%

The Disingenuous Democrat Concern Troll was posting Gross Receipts ...

the guy taking him to the wood shed went down the list of operating Expenses and showed Kroger's Profits were 1.4%

and there was also the usual gnashing of teeth about CEO Wages

Which is about NORMAL for grocery stores.

Notice that many items in the store have NOT increased greatly in price - and many have - because that is how they work.

These people - somehow believe that rather than prices skyrocketing because of things like gas prices spiking and the government printing money - that every company on the planet colluded to make prices jump, just to make Biden LOOK bad. Including FOREIGN companies.

"Absolute dollars"? I looked up the term and I don't think it means what you think it means. Perhaps you could explain to me how the term "absolute dollars" applies here in this context?

I have the same argument with the economically ignorant all the time. The left media post gross profit numbers and the ignorant slugs gasp in horror at the magnitude of those numbers, never having the mental capacity to even begin to understand how close to "business failing" a 1% profit margin is!

They will say with conviction that Kamala was never the "border czar". That's why I always make jokes about the "flashy thingie" because Democrats have severe memory loss.
It's the g-d doublethink.

Either she HAS almost four years of EXPERIENCE as VP - and thus, culpable - or has no g-d experiene at all.
Either she CAST the deciding vote in the Senate for some disastrous bill - or her vote just didn't COUNT.

It reminds me of when I was a kid, and the rule was, if the dog shts in the house - whoever finds it first is obligated to pick it up and deal with it.
You can guess the rest - sht was right in the middle of the room - and none of the kids could SEE it.
