Projection TV's

We had one in the house we rented in NC for our vacation.. We had a "Media Room" that had no windows, and stadium seating. Picture and sound were AWESOME and the picture was as big as you wanted it, in this instance it covered the width of the viewing wall.

Technology has brought the prices of the units down considerably, as well as not needing as much space. You can cover a 9 ft wide wall without having to have the projector 15 feet from the wall. Companies make projecor mounts that retract into your ceiling so there is no sign of anything in your room until you actually want to watch something, and you can be immersed in video games..

I've thought about it a lot, but waiting for someone else to take the plunge to see how it works out, but can say the media room in the NC house was a big hit.

My buddy has one projecting onto a 10' screen. It's pretty nice, but it's definitely better viewing when it's dark out. I think his is an Optoma.
That is what I am wondering. I have windows near that wall. Will sunlight into the room wash out the screen?

The article says over 1000 lumens will not wash out with sunlight and I could put heavier curtains over that window for daytime light issues.

If the projector were mounted on the ceiling there wouldn't be an issue of people walking through the "beam" and goofing the picture either.

He has windows all around the room and it's ok during the day. It also helps to have a high quality screen...a white sheet just won't cut it. Apparently, there is also a paint that you can get so that you can project directly onto the wall and get good results.

I read that a screen is almost a neccessity. They are about $200 and even come motorized so it will roll/fold up if you want. the screens have a special surface that helps the picture.

Dear Pete

Last time you were posting trying to decide whether to get something it was the Harley.

Cut to the chase and just tell me when I can come over and watch movies with Boy on your new projection system.

Actually it was a 4 wheeler for Boy and that is still for sale and I cringe at the raping I am going to take on it.

No, he's talking about a front projector...although, there are DLP front projectors.

Redskins (Danny) just yanked out all the plasmas in FedEx and upgraded to the DLP televisons. Supposedly, they are the way to go.
