My $.02...

After doing tons of research, I finally decided on a flat-panel LCD HD when I bought my tv this past April. The research paid off...I couldn't be happier with it. :yay:

It's amazing how many people can't figure out how to hook up a TV :dork:
This wouldn't be hard. Take the vid plug out of old TV, plug into new TV. I am using it as a monitor anyway.

But when you get up in the 42+ size it costs some serious $$

I assume you looked at them at BB? Did they have a Samsung DLP there as well? That's what I have. One of my coworkers has the same size from another manufacturer (can't remember which one or what technology), but his picture blows compared to mine. Oh, and both of us are watching standard DirecTV, so it's definitely the TV.

They had them all, Sony, Toshiba, JVC and Panasonic. The picture on the JVC was great, screen size great and the fact you didn't have to be directly in front of it was great. You could walk way off the the left or right and it was still great. that is what sold me on the JVC if I do get one.

Ditto that...

He has windows all around the room and it's ok during the day. It also helps to have a high quality screen...a white sheet just won't cut it. Apparently, there is also a paint that you can get so that you can project directly onto the wall and get good results.

...the guy I chatted with was a painter and he said you don't need a screen but you do need to have a real nice, even paint job (ripples et al show)

Pete, are you looking for a TV (flat panel) that you can hang on the wall? Do you want a monitor or a TV? Meaning do you want to hear it from the TV or do you have speakers around the room. I can do a 42" Pioneer plasma for a good deal.

Ok, the deed is done. Stopped by Sears on the way home and they had several models. I really liked the picture on the 50 inch Samsung DLP. Right next to it was a 56 inch Toshiba DLP. My livingroom is not that big so I ruled out the 56 inch.

So the guy said he would price match, he went to the internet and checked Best Buy, and the 50 inch Samsung DLP was the same price. He went to Circuit City's web site and it was $1299. He matched Circuit City's price plus 10% of the difference so I got the Samsung 50 inch DLP HDTV for $1270.00

Pick it up Tuesday

Thanks but I impulse bought a projection on the way home.

BUY THE SERVICE PLAN. Ask "Flomaster" about the Samsung that he bought from Sears.

Was it bad? Consumer Reports rated Samsung high

Yup. It was bad. I don't have the DLP (Projection) ratings, but the Plasma and LCD TV ratings have Samsung among the lowest. Ya never know though dude. Even the highest rated ones have issues...luck of the draw. No problems with my Toshiba though, after 3 years, lots of dust and moving it from corner to corner, to bedroom to porch, while doing work in the LR.

What model did you get, do you know? I'll check the updated ratings online (I have an account) if you want me to.

Flo bought the 42" model. Soon after, the lamp burnt out. Repair man came and put a new lamp in. Soon after that, he got a Thermal Lamp Error or something. Sears replaced the TV. BUT, he had purchased the Service plan. I don't know what difference that may have made in the repair/replacement of his TV though. You might want to ask some quetsions. The service plans are expensive and frequently go unused, but they can save alot of heartache if you should need it.

Dude, you got to tell how good your TV is. I had the choice of getting a 46" LCD 1080p tv and a 61" DLP 1080p tv. I orginally was going to get the LCD and then I saw turned around and saw XBox 360 demos on a 61" tv. I immediately nutted in my pants and told the sales person I want the bigger rear projection instead. It's coming thursday.

OK, a lunchtime trip to Best Buy left me luke warm to the front projection idea. To get a quality projector is going to be $1,500 to $2,000. Then there is the mounting it to the ceiling, questions about hook ups to my older home theater and the washout from the sunlight through the windows and so on.

After studying and comparing I may have made a decision on a rear projection 56 inch HD ILP form JVC. The viewable angles are great, no blacking out and you move to the side, crystal clear picture, 70lbs.

$1,899 for the TV. $400 for 4 year in home service plan covers cleaning, alignment, mirror calibration-polishing, free in home set up/calibration.

So basically $2400 for to the door service, 4 year in home service, and 56 inches of TV bliss. They also are doing 0% interest until 2010. Typically I would pay cash but hell free money for 3 year? why not

Free money is good stuff. Just make sure you pay any amount of money every month on it, anyway. I mean like $5. While you don't have a minimum payment, it looks like a debt on your credit report that hasn't been paid in months and can lower you credit. So, pay something every month. It doesn't matter what. That way it looks like you have paid steady on it. :yay:

:yay: I am not sure if it is 0 payments? I know it is 0% int. I planned on dropping some chunks of cash periodically. I got 0% on my truck too, free money is good. :yay:
