I agree with the Aussies (and chows, CB Retrievers, etc from prevois posts). I have a 4 y/o Aussie that Ive had since he was 6 weeks. He is VERY protective of me, "his" family and "his" house. But I can take him to the boardwalk, fair, etc. and he dosnt give strangers (human or canine) a 2nd thought. But for people to approach the house, my family or especially me, he goes berzerk - barks and charges unless called back. Hes very obedient and never bitten anyone, but definitely had a few warning-nips for people who just walk in unnaounced (i.e. we dont greet them at the door, etc).

Ditto....got a 4 year old female, that does the same...thank you..:yay:

My Saint Bernard/Great Pyreness mix is very shy, but I think that's the result of the lack of socializing when she was little. I got her at 6 months, and she had been kept in a small pen up until that time (@$*&#!*# to the breeder).

When we are in the garden, she will kick up a ruckus at anyone who approaches, just to let momma know that we have company. But if you continue to approach, she turns tail and RUNS! (& she can cover some ground with those long legs!)
