I was given 2-options. Southern Maryland Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center (Dr. Heffron, Schwarts, Ismaili and Knight) or Chesapeake Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center (Dr. Zabigalski).
I have come to the conclusion that that is the biggest tooth in my mouth. :lmao: So it figures.

It also figures that this poll would be tied. 1/2 saying one thing and the other 1/2 going with the other option.
He did my surgery and I was put under. Mine was a bit more than an extraction though, he cut the gum from the front about 2 inches toward the back, peeled it away from the bone, drilled through the jawbone and removed a bone cyst, scraped out the cavity and put it all back together. It hurt like hell for about 4 days after but it got better and the hole has almost filled with new bone growth.

Dr Z came highly recommended and he did fine by me.

Oh yea, it was a root canal that was only 16 months old done by a local dentist that had gone bad.

I went to Dr. Cheryl Budd who is an endodontist, root canal specialist and she redid the root canal.

Good gawd almighty do they make $$$$. I figured my dental issue as being roughly $333 per hour. Highway robbery. :eyebrow:

My daughter...

got all four wisdom teeth out yesterday. She went to sleep.

When I had all four of mine out, I did "twilight" and I was aware of what was going on. I had a root wrapped around something up top - I remember feeling like my nose was turning inside out and coming out through my mouth. I was scared to death! Hollering... The dentist told me - "Oh, hush! It doesn't hurt that bad". THEN, he noticed that the root was all hosed up... :smack:

I'll be sleeping if I ever have anything else done! :lmao:

It is a fairly new procedure that seems to be more popular than ever before, so I would really like to hear a personal account of how it all turned out.

I'm at phase #2 on the bridge process, which is extract the tooth. I have to heal and take antibiotics for roughly 2-weeks, and then they will do a mold for the permanent bridge, once that comes in, they will put it in and I’m done.

I learned something new about a year ago, and that is that root canals will and do fail, and to have a root canal last nearly 15-years is considered very rare although the rate is getting better with new and improved procedures. They were surprised then that it didn't hurt or bother me because from the impression they got from the x-ray, I should have been in pain or at the very least, uncomfortable.

All they did today was take an xray to ensure that the implant and bone had fused properly. I go back on Wednesday afternoon and they put the new tooth in. :yay:

I'd prefer to be knocked out for any dental procedure, even a simple cleaning. Having my teeth poked, picked, and prodded just skeezes me out. I'm seriously going to check out the whole "sedation dentistry" stuff. Has anyone ever done it?

For those smarty pants out there, I believe sedation dentistry is a different ball of wax than being put under for wisdom tooth removal etc..

But seriously folks...

I actually prefer novocaine.

I've had both done before. When I went under they actually chopped my gums up to remove a couple wisdom teeth, and I was miserable for a week. The first day was the worst! I was all zonked out, groggy, messed up and hurting for the rest of the day and into the night. I remember laying on the couch feeling like I'd been through a food processor.

I had another Wisdom Tooth yanked out, and only got local anesthetic. It didn't hurt at all, and the hole where my tooth was only hurt for a day or two - and not that badly if I recall.

There are drawbacks however. Some people are squeamish. They probably couldn't deal with the Tug-Of-War game you play with the dentist when he's got both feet up on your chair and pulling as hard as he can, while the nurse standing behind you has both hands on your forehead holding your noggin in a death-grip.

Plus the wet smacking sound when the tooth finally gives way and comes out can be pretty unnerving if you have a delicate sensibility - and that is to say nothing of catching a glimpse of the dripping red gum-meat clinging to your ex-tooth as the dentist triumphantly removes it from his pliers.

Me, personally - I like the sport of a wide-awake extraction.

That totally sucked. :faint:

But it is over except for the pain part. The inside of my cheek is completely torn up. I think that hurts worse than the tooth right now. The Novocain is wearing off and my prescription will not be ready until 2:30. I don’t see what is so hard about going to the shelf and counting out some Percosets and Amoxicillin.

I have a few stitches and the dentist told me I'm going to hate his guts tonight.

I don't feel so tough right now. :bawl:

So you went with novocaine? I couldn't have been that bad.

The only thing that bugged me about getting teeth pulled only with novocaine was the loud crack when tooth came loose - accompanied by that feeling that my mouth was now broken, and the squelchy liquid pop of the tooth coming out. That, and the lingering coppery taste.

None of that was too painful though.

I don't remember getting my cheek torn up though!
What's that about?
