Question About Heated Gloves

I think I can pretty much say this for most of the riders here; we wear gloves year round. Lighter weight in the summer, heavier in the colder weather, but always have a pair on.

The shorts and flip-flops, not so much.

Absolutely! I want to keep my skin and fingernails if I ever go down!!! :yay:

I have seen those and thought they were the perfect solution.....until I researched what people thought of them on the internet. Apparently, in the wind, it pushes the material against the brake and clutch levers. Not enough to "engage" them, but enough to keep your brake light on all the time while riding
Not a problem for my bike since it has hand guards, but a pretty easy fix...

For winter riding the BEST set up I've seen yet is heated grips with ATV gauntlets mounted on the bars.

Gerbings (sp?) make, probably the best heated gear on the market, and their's is a component system.. You can have just the gloves, or you can have the whole set up, gloves, Jacket/Vest, pants and socks, and they all run off a single battery connection (i think the draw would be too much for a cigarette lighter) through a rheostat.
.

I've got the heated grips with brush shields in front to block the wind. Works great :yay:
Looked into getting the Gerblings.
By the time you buy the gloves, battery connector and thermostat, you're looking at about $250. The heated grips were well under $100 including a digital thermostat.

... now I just need some gloves insulated only on the backs

I have the real hippo hands on mine. They were on when we did the polar bear but I have taken them off. I love them but some folks just have to see their controls...

You just answered my concern with the heated grips....those will keep the inside of your hands warm, but it's the outside of my fingers that go numb! :ohwell:

No, they don't. Staying warm is about maintaining blood flow. Your torso (core) will maintain it's tem at the expens of extrimities (hands and feet). The hot grips cause increased blood flow to your hands which in turn keeps your whole hand warm.
I've worn a pair of Aerostich Deerskin gloves with a thin fleece lining all winter, no problems and for any extended rides I add silk glove liners

Warm Gear

I have the Warm Gear gloves and I ride everyday unless there is ice on the road. I've had them on when riding 500 miles to a military funeral in PA at 0 degrees.

I don't own the controller to regulate the heat either. I will tell you they work great down to about 30 degrees at keeping your hands warm. Below 30 degrees and 65 mph they just stop your hands from freezing solid, not keep them warm. When it's in the teens your hands will still get cold at speed.

When the temps are above 40 or so, your hands will get very warm, but I've never been burned by the gloves. They just don't get that hot and if they do, you probably won't need them due to the air temperature.

The jacket liner however, needs a controller if it comes anywhere near bare skin. I have had it burn me through a long sleeve Tshirt so usually make sure I have a real good layer on before putting the liner on.

Hope that helps.

Brian, thank you SO MUCH!!!!! :buddies:
You answered teh very question I was asking!!! I want to buy the gloves, but didn't know if I needed to spend the extra and worry about hooking up a controller unit. Nw I know that I can justr buy the gloves and be fine!!!!
