Question for the moment: Ga$ prices?

What sacrafices have you had to make because of the skyrocketing price of gas prices?

If you haven't yet made any sacrafices, how have you changed your driving habits?

For me, A LOT fewer trips to St. Mary's County to see the beauty, and the racing. I already drive as minimal as I can, and I have significantly changed acceleration habits.

Haven't changed anything. I still drive where I need and want to.

I bought a new car recently. Instead of another SUV, I got a car that averages 30 MPG. It also has a MPG display on the dash, and that makes me more aware of my driving habits. I avoid jackrabbit starts because of it.

I'm not driving less, and I'm not carpooling, so it obviously hasn't hurt me enough to do the things that would actually help the most.

I do grocery for 2 weeks at a time, make a list of all the stores I need to go and then pick a day and conquer all. I keep my speed at 55 on the higway. I drive a stickshift, I get 38 mpg. I have actually done 42mpg from Ocean city to leonardtown. I have drastically changed the way I go.

I can't. I already take the bus and 80% of my driving consists of driving to and from the bus stop each morning. I'm on CWS at work and I do grocery shopping on return from work to minimize trips. We carpool always and minimize trips - because quite honestly, gas above TWO dollars a gallon is a lot.

So if gas goes to 10 dollars a gallon, my only option is to pay for it. I can't cut it any further. I already spend 10-15 hours a week riding buses.

I have cut back on unnecessary spending in other areas to make up for the gas price hike.

Cutting back on trips or driving style is not an option. I have to go to work. It's keep up with traffic or be plowed off the road on Rt. 4.

see, the high gas prices have led me to change my driving habits, but not like most people. the situation az i see it is this: the prices are pushing people closer and closer to the edge. the edge of what? to the point where they will only drive to work. and they will carpool if they can cause they need to save their monies.

My approach is: I recently have been redlining it from stoplights, and driving as much as i can possibly drive for no real reason. I am hoping my excessive use of gas will push those people who are on the fence onto the other side

why??

because i hate people. the truth is that 85% of people are idiots in this world. and the fewer that I have to deal with when im driviving is worth the extra gas.

I guess I was aware that gas prices were going up, but my car got good mileage....and then it died, and I did the worst thing possible: bought a SUV! Now I'm in a bit of a shock. My best friend lives on the eastern shore. Everytime I think about going to see her I decide not. Other than that I already have an hour commute to work, and I really don't have much of a choice but to go fast on Rte4

We have been much more conscious of just running out to pick up one or two things. We keep a running list and go out on errands only once a week, if possible, now. Also, from northern Calvert, if we need to go down to Prince Frederick, we combine any other errands down there we might need at the same time. We try not to make that trip for just one thing. Also, if we are going any distance now, we tend to take the hubby's Honda instead of the minivan, so that we are getting about 25% better gas mileage.

The biggest savings for us, though, has been that the hubby has been able to telecommute three days a week. Normally he drives from No. Calvert to Vienna, so doing that only 2x/week has saved a ton! That may not last forever once he moves onto the next project, so we are definitely enjoying it while it lasts.

Haven't changed anything and just dealing w/the extra cost. Like most people, I don't like putting out the extra money, but don't see the point in cutting back from doing things.
