quick disconnect on grill propane tank

I want to replace my grill's propane tank (which is getting rusty after 10 years), but it has a quick disconnect that interfaces with my Weber grill. I see nice shiny tanks at BJ's (where I take my tank for refill), but they are all the normal screw connect. How do I get my quick disconnect to fit those tanks (or buy a tank with the same fitting I have)?

I wouldn't be surprised if that is a normal thread under there, and just screws off. If not, you can probably pick up a new quick disconnect. If you can't find one locally, check with the propane gas dealers in the area.

Remember - Gas Fittings are REVERSE threaded than normal plumbing fittings

This was done so cheaper plumbing fittings not rated for gas flow/pressure and metal type was not used on gas appliances!!!

Of course it is

Unless you have the Harley Davidson signature series Weber grill, then it's 6x

If you go to weber grill website - you can buy the needed piece & hose for @ $29.00 Check w/HomeDepot as they also sell Weber parts. They are great - call them on Monday and they may just send you one -- they have done that before....

"IF" I'm remembering right, it would have been in the row with the propane heaters. On the shelf there was a very small display of gas fittings and adapters. I "think" that may have been where I saw it.

Yep, your correct, that is exactly where they are in Lowes, I picked one up there for myself.

I think the tanks at Lowes and other places all have male threads now.

There are ways around this.

I guess since that quick disconnect is made for propane that it is ok.

One thing to note is nobody will refill a 10 year old propane tank, some type of law about that.
