Depends on the pet I guess - are your dogs messy? I've seen grown men create way more mess than the dog ever makes.....

You'd have to define "dirty home". With pets there is always hair, their smelly food, and various odors associated with animals in general. I don't consider that "dirty", but a lot of people would. Like, when I go to someone's house that has a dog, I can smell the dog. It's not offensive, nor does it "stink" - it just smells like a dog lives there. But I have a girlfriend who gags out on doggie odor and thinks you shouldn't be able to smell a pet at all.
