R-Uh Is NOT A Letter

The National Association of Elementary School Teachers issued a plea to parents of African-American pupils that they teach their children that the letter ‘R’ has only one syllable.

“For years we’ve been faced with a smattering of African-American children who pronounce ‘R’ like ‘are-uh,’” Connie Brown, NAEST president told The Peoples News. “This has got to stop.”

Almost every black person can remember a classmate who, when reciting the alphabet, would stumble over ‘R,’ as in “…ell, em, en, oh, pee, cue, are-uh, ess, tee…” but carry on as if nothing was amiss.

The NAEST also reiterated for the 17th straight year that ‘ask’ is not pronounced ‘ax’ and that while it reluctantly accepts ‘fixin’ to’ as an alternate for ‘going to,’ the non-word ‘fintin’ is not.

You can also add libary=library, ambalamps=ambulance, pitcher=picture and peyasul=pencil

With all the stuff going on in this country right now, the pronunciation of the letter "R" is the least of my worries.

I'm Southern, white, and I pronounce things the same way when my accent is in full swing. Has nothing to do with color.

OMG! I HATE that....and you are right. It has nothing to do with color.

You're right, but I mostly hear this coming from blacks. They even get mad at each other if one pronounces things the correct way and will say that they are a sell-out because they are "trying to be all proper and stuff"..and to get an education is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad..you need to be a street nga thug to be blessed in their eyes...
