I'd think a vet visit would be in order BEFORE anything. QUOTE]
My perspective is that to treat the skin, you need to be able to access it and allow for medication to be put there. St Marys Veterinary does not offer grooming services anymore and that is where we go. Upon calling for an appointment,we were told that he should come in for his rabies - at which point we will also be charged for the visit, and an exam fee,etc..and then will have to come back for any skin issues as they will need him to have a complete shave down in oder to do a skin scrape/meds. So - it makes more sense to have him groomed first - then one visit does skin issues, check up,etc. So again - the question is not what to do - but WHERE TO GO?
but WHERE TO GO?

p.s. you got the dog for free, stop being such a ####ing cheap skate.
I couldn't think of a nice reply so I didn't.
It's okay - others posted what you were thinking.

I have a shih tzu who was just adopted - freebie over the net - and he is in desperate need of a grooming. No one will touch him w/o a rabies shot...where can I get a cheap one quick? He will be seeing our vet but needs a grooming first, since we know he has skin problems.
Am I missing something here?
Take the dog to the vet, get the shot, the get him groomed.. Whats the problem?
Hell you could just shave the little guy yourself right?
