Radar Detectors

Never understood the need for a radar detector. Isn't it just safer to drive the speed limit?

Where's the logic in that



Actually, I've found myself driving much slower with the radar detector overall... hard to believe but when it goes off, I don't know if they are false alerts or if it's a real alert, and I can't afford to take a chance, so I'm slowing down ALOT. Who would have thought?

Around here, drive with it in City mode.. Even 235 South of the Base mine goes crazy..

Donut Connection Sets it off.. EVERY bank.. WalMart, The Jewelry Stores.. St James Pub.. ALL the grocery stores(it's the door openers), a LOT of things around here will set it off.. You ahve to get used to where they NORMALLY go off, then you'll get used to hearing it when you need to.

I keep it in city mode, never had it in highway mode yet. I drive a 100 miles a day - 500 a week (at least), can you imagine how many times it'd be going off if it was in highway mode :

If you had just driven slower in the begining you would have saved 5 points, the cost of the tickets, the cost of the radar detector, the cost of the increase in car insurance.

(btw, 5 point was on a single ticket, don't know if I got any more on the other one this feb. because it was in Virginia) Last time I had this many and had to go to a class as I have had to again, I moved to the city, and with the congestion, there's NO WAY anyone can speed. All my previous points had dropped off and I had zero points on my license (way back when )

True but when faced with fines, points, the spectre of losing your license what did you do? You bought a device with the hope of defeating radar thus enabling you to continue to speed and not get caught. The rational course would be to just not drive like a maniac.

I didn't go out of my way to look for one, there was neither premediation nor any contrived or conspired concepts prior to purchasing it. It went like this... I was in Pro Audio this weekend looking at something entirely different, saw it asked about it. The salesman gave it to me at a big discount. It was discounted because it was opened and had been recently returned, I figured "ehh... what the heck, couldn't hurt."
That's all. There was no deliberate or calculated thought towards getting it in advance to beat tickets. I was just at the right place at the right time on Saturday.

Pete, it was there, looked cool, I travel alot more than the average person, sure, why not get one at that price. It anything it'd be a toy I could play with as I'm spending hours a day just sitting in traffic. Something to keep my mind occupied
