Raid on compound

You know what? I think the police have had this girl for some time and this whole thing is false pretense. I don't condone at all what those pervs are doing, but I also think the Texas Rangers need to follow the law.

I don't care in this case at all. I wish they would jail the men, burn the place to the ground, and work on deprogramming the woman. This kind of sick fanatical crap needs to be rooted out, exposed to the scalding light of day, and prosecuted to the fullest.

I though it was funny when they rescued the original 52(?) kids, and carted them away in buses belonging to the Baptist Church.. Out of the Fire??

And yes I believe in THIS case everyone involved had good intentions.. but..

I don't know who planned that, but that was bad joojoo.. I think school buses would have been beneficial. At least SOMEthing that didn't advertise a different religion.

Why are the women victims who need to be deprogrammed and the men need to be jailed? Sorry, but unless you can show that the women were being held against their will, they are just as guilty as the men.

The only victims here are the children. Every adult, male or female, who allowed the abuse to continue is at fault and deserves to be punished.

If you excuse the women because they were brainwashed, you have to excuse the men also because they believed the exact same things.

Bull. Those women were sold into virtual sexual slavery as children and beaten and raped into submission. Do you really think these sexually abused uneducated fearful women deserve jail time too? The men had access to the outside world and were very cagey with how they controlled and kept these women incommunicado. It's like blaming the women who were captive in the sultan's harem for his misdeeds.

Sold? By whom?

These men weren't running a sex cult. They were members of a religion, and they believed that what they were doing is what made God happy. They broke the law, and they deserve to be punished, but don't make it into something it is not.

I don't believe for a minute that the women aren't just as guilty. They knew better. They may have been scared to stand up for what is right, but that does not change the fact that they stood by as their own daughters were raped.

If women want to be treated the same as men, then we can't excuse their actions when they are just as guilty as the men. You can't tell me that women deserve equal treatment when it's a positive, but are the victim when things go wrong.

Women deserve to be treated equally no matter what. Good or bad.

I used the term "sold" rather loosely I guess. They were given to adult men as children and raped and abused, they were not able to leave freely. You can hate on these poor damaged women in the name of "equality" all you want but I doubt they will see a moment of jail time because most normal people see they were victims too.

I would have to agree with your logic on this one.:jerry:

I have to agree. These 'women' were married off as soon as they started menses which the average age is 12. They were definately victims as well IMO.

Not buying it.. be hard to prove anyways..

If they are 30 and have given their 12 year olds away to be sexually abused by the church elders, they need to go to jail.

If you have NO contact with the real world...are educated by a wacko..how do you know what is right or wrong?

They have NO tv, no news, no nothing to connect them with reality outside The Compound.

From CNN:
"FLDS members practice plural marriage, which is against the law in Utah, Arizona and Texas and has been disavowed by the mainstream Mormon church.

Women are taught to "keep sweet" and obey their husbands, who hold their "priesthood," or way into Heaven.

And so, the families here are large and extended. Besides Jeffs, some of the most common surnames are Barlow, Jessop, and Steed.

Critics say girls as young as 13 or 14 are placed in polygamous marriages to older men.

Sect members don't watch television or read newspapers, and they are told not to talk to outsiders."

Do you excuse the men who were raised under the same conditions?

If they also had no contact with the outside world then maybe yes they could be victims as well. I think that should be decided on a case by case basis.

Two different set of standards...
Men are not raised the same as women.

The FLDS Church teaches the doctrine of plural marriage, which states that a man having multiple wives is ordained by God and is a requirement for a man to receive the highest form of salvation. It is generally believed in the church that a man should have a minimum of three wives to fulfill this requirement.[27] Connected with this doctrine is the concept that wives are required to be subordinate to their husbands.

The church currently practices the law of placing, whereby a young woman of marriageable age is assigned a husband by revelation from God to the leader of the church, who is regarded as a prophet.[28] The prophet elects to take and give wives to and from men according to their worthiness. Wives may be taken from one man and reassigned to men that are more worthy.

Sound like the same conditions to you?

Until authorities locate the girl who made the complaint, they will not be able to determine whether she was referring to a different man who may reside at the Texas ranch, Captain Caver said.

Next thing you know some cult will be telling people that eating fish sticks on Friday or giving up candy or soda for 40 days in the spring will get you into heaven.

Well then, they are all innocent. They were doing what God commanded, let them all go and get back to the business of doing God's work!!
