My wife found 2 kittens in the parking lot where she works and we have them until we find homes ! They are male & about 4 weeks according to Vet. Both have mega fleas and Vet said to use Dawn Dishwashing soap & flea comb . For eating we have been feeding Syringe full of Milk & Nutri Cal 4- 7 times a day. Has any one had to do this and maybe can share some advice !

Been there

I've bottle fed kittens many times...a lot of work...one of the hardest animal type projects you could ever take on...but its very rewarding. I have one cat who is about to turn 10, who was born on our farm, and my brother in law found her under a dumpster. She was just barely over two weeks old at the time. Bottle feeding.....wiping, cleaning...all of it. Take shifts, because you really need to feed around the clock. Keep them as clean and warm as you can, so they dont get upper respiratory infections (lost several over the years to that), and treat them like babies. Aurora, to this day, still believes she is human, and shouldnt need to live with cats. However, she did have one litter of kittens, and was the most amazing mother ever!!!!!!!

baby wipes

Get baby wipes...the handiest things for wiping them down. Unscented. You're probably still having to wipe their bellies like the mom cat would, to help them go to the bathroom....and then wipe their bottoms. And you really need to tickle their bellies, and rub their faces, imitate things the mom and other kittens would do....even lightly tug on their ears.

You know I am just amazed at all the kittens that are being found lately. Did you also get them tested for FIV/FELV? That would be important for people to know the result of if they are going to adopt them.

There is a milk re-placer for kittens sold in the pet stores. I assume that is the milk you are referring to? I bet they are adorable! Good luck with them, and I'd be happy to help you advertise them so you can find them a home when they are ready.

KMR is the milk replacement formula. I hand raised my little baby Dinky - she is 4 now and still thinks she is one of us and highly offended that we took in another cat 3 years ago.

I took her to work with me for 3 months - it is hard work but very rewarding.

Good luck!

I love hand feeding baby kittens, it really is so rewarding. Ive had a few myself, someone gave me a baby they found, couldnt find mom anywhere, and when I took him to get milk at the pet store, I plopped him on the scale and he weighed in at a whopping 1/2 lb. He was so tiny, barely had his eyes open. I would gladly help out if I was there. Good luck.

My Dinky was 4/10 of a pound the vet said - about 3 weeks old with an upper respiratory infection to boot. Would not drink out of a bottle. I had to feed her with a syringe the entire time. It is quite a kick in the teeth with the time and money I put into the ungrateful wench when she gives me the cold shoulder now! She is not a loving kitty and only wants to be friendly on her terms. I have noticed though that the older she gets the more "cat like" she becomes. I would not want to do that again at all!

I've bottle-fed many a kitten too. It is very hard work, but rewarding when you can see them go to a new home. I wrapped my Kits in a towel to feed them, since my hands were beginning to look like raw Hamburger. When finished..I would run their fanny's under warm water to stimulate the toileting, and to clean the milk off of them. They also sell Kitten Bottles at Pet Stores, which is a LOT easier than syringe-feeding, and cleaner too. Dawn Dish liquid is the BEST..I am surprized that the Vet even told you that! That's been a very well-kept secret for years. Good Luck with the babies!

KMR~~~~ 1 part KMR POWDER (NOT LIQUID) and 2 parts water...mix well. ( I use a plastic bottle with 2 small pebbles..makes mixing easier)
Buy kitten feeding kit..a bottle with a nipple. Do NOT use a syringe..as they can asperate and get really sick.

Keep kitties in a nice container and use a heating pad to heat 1/2 of their container..this gives them the ability to crawl to the heat or away.
Give then a size appropiate stuffed animal to crawl and snuggle on.

Weigh kittens in grams.....feed 5% of body weight every 5-6 hours....
Do NOT over feed..will result in GI issues...better to underfeed.
Weigh kittens every day. ..any weight loss is a bad sign.
(Example..kitties weight 474 grams ( about a pound...about 4 weeks old)
feed 46 mls or an ounce and 1/4. ( an ounce is 30 mls or cc's)
They should be trying to poop and pee on their own..but still stimulate them.

A healthy kitten gains about 1/4 pound every week for the first 4 months.
Or 4 ounces a week..a good rule of thumb for determining age and growth rate.

The recommendation of baby wipes is perfect. I use them all the time!!
And kleenex,,plain, unscented Kleenex.

Bath w/ Dawn is perfect.. I use dawn on all babies, kittens, squirrels, raccoons...I wash from head to toe...and rinse really well.
Comb out or pick out fleas.
Use warm water and hair dryer set on low speed.

Kitties need heat, comfort, food and love..keep they safe and happy and keep the camera handy,

If they're four weeks old, they don't really need to be bottle fed. Like Prep said, you can make them a mush of kitten food.

Most important thing is to get rid of the fleas. A bad flea infestation will kill a small kitten.

That sounds like too much Nutrical and kittens should never have cow's milk.

I've hand raised many, many orphans over the last 30 years. If you need any help, shoot me a PM.

4 weeks they can eat on their own..you can use KMR mixed with your nutri cal..you are NOT using cows milk right? I also like to mix baby ceral with the KMR if you need to...also I add canned cat food to the KMR and mash it up or blender it and offer to them...you can dunk the tips of their noses in it to get them started or get them by their scruff some and when they open their mouth dip it in...4 weeks should be easy..good luck..also a drop of advantage is ok at that age..much better then fleas which will cause them to be anemic
