I want to cry when I see peformance vehicles that have an automatic tranny. They're getting harder to find. When I got my truck, nearest manual in MD was Annapolis and only 3 were available in state (or so the dealer told me).

i got a manual in my dakota :neener:

I am not exactly sticking up for the guy, but a Miata is very much so a sports car and one of the most popular race cars in the world. Sports cars are usually defined as being rear wheel drive with two seats(real seats). The Miata is one of the better balanced and great handling sports cars in the market.

I had them bring down the manual from Annapolis :neener:
When I saw new "Zs" sitting there with automatics, I was glad I wasn't a car salesman. I think I'd be tempted to forgo the comission and slap the customer if they wanted an auto.

If you say so.

My Honda would drive right over a little Miata.

As far as Miatas go, they are the moust sought-after platform for autocross racing due to their perfect balance and excellent handling out of the box. Power is so-so, but the power:weight ratio makes up for it.

Have you checked out the new MazdaSpeed version?
MazdaSpeed is a marketing scheme ran by a bunch of tools. The MazdaSpeed Protege comes factory with something like 8 PSI, which it utilizes enough to barely outrun stock Civics.

Crank up the boost a bit to 10PSI and the engine will blow sky-high. They didn't forge the internals on a factory boosted car!!

F*ck MazdaSpeed. :dead:

Miatas are also a highly sought-after platform in the Grassroots Motorsports Racing arena which probably makes up about 99% of racing.
In the real world of racing/HPDE/autocross a good driver in a Miata will roll a driver with little or no track experience in a Vette. I too used to be skeptical of the Miata until I met them on the race track.

Why are people so quick to put a street car in the same category as a race car? They are not the same thing.

...and if that weren't enough, they feel compelled to throw in that their POS can beat a 'vette if the guy behind the wheel of the 'vette is a less experienced driver.

Because in my world many street cars are turned into race cars. In my opinion, I don't even see the sense in owning a sports car unless it is going to used at the track. Cars such as the Corvette, Lotus Elise, or S2000 are hardly a practical daily commuter and are much more at home on a racetrack.

Autocross and a lot of other racing is done with street cars. They drive them to the track and might swap out the wheels & tires to non DOT spec. World Rally Cup (WRC) requires a certian number of cars to be produced before they can be modified and raced.
It's not like NASCAR where the Ford/Chevy/Dodge is the same car with a slightly different fiberglass body. NASCAR used to require STOCK CARS, that's where Dodge Daytona's came from.

What is wrong with a Corvette as a commuter car?
