My dad took me and a friend to see Smashing Pumpkins when I was 13 or 14. It was awesome. Saw some freaks but didn't have any kind of problem. I've never really had a problem at a concert though.

...I. I had GREAT times and that's reason enough to say no right there!

Thinking back, I remember my first concert was a KISS concert at the Capital Center when I was 14 or 15. My brother was 2 years younger than me and it was me, him, my best friend and his friend. My dad dropped us off and picked us up in the parking lot. Looking back on that, my parents were insane. I would never drop my 14 year old daughter and 3 other teens off at a place like that. I'll pay the $ and chaperone.

Imagine, if Flea dies and she doesn't go..it'll be MY fault!

How can I condemn my child to a life of not having seen Flea????

Flea Rocks! :larry:

...say the benefit of letting her experience that now is?

Living the experience. I'm not a shoulda coulda woulda kind of person. My kids have lost 5 of their friends (one was VERY close to our family) 2 of them were lost to cancer and 2 were lost to car accidents, neither of which involved alcohol and one to a fire, in the past 3 years and I don't want to look back and have any regrets. If it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen. You never know what the big man has in store for you.

Why does everything have to be a benefit?
Some things are just fun. They don't need a reason or a benefit... it's just enough to do it.

...my first reaction was "Gee, why does it have to be a benefit?" and then I gave that some thought and my response is why WOULDN'T there need to be a benefit? I talked to the kid last night and gave her my reasons.

To sit there and say to her 'I don't like the idea and here's why' and then say, 'but you have a good time'...man, the more I think about it, the happier I am in saying no. It would be different if my view of concerts was this big, good thing.

Live a little? Everybody does it? C'mon, what could possibly go wrong? Just do it.

Concerts aren't always 'just' fun, so, that one's out.

...but if my kid suddenly died, she's lived a pretty good, full life to this point and I don't see my grief extending to her not having gone to a big concert.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I think that is just what was done back then. I wen to my first concert at 15 and it was Judas Priest. I didn't even really know their music I just went with my brother and his friends. My mom would have died if she saw how fast my brothers friend drove.

Here I Go...

Sorry, I just had to put my two-cents in here...

I went to my first concert when I was 15...I am now 30 and I have been to well over 75 concerts. The same bands I followed then...I follow now. I've never been drunk...As a matter of fact, I can't stand any type of alcohol. I've never been high...I've never even picked up a cigarette. I led a very sheltered life.

I've been to see everything from the Grateful Dead to Metallica. I've never had ANY problems. This past summer, I took my 4 year-old son to 3 different concerts. Motley Crue/Aerosmith, Def Leppard/Journey and Poison/Cinderella. For all 3 shows we sat within the very first 3 rows. My son loved it! My fellow-concert goers loved it! The band members thought it was great that I brought this boy to see their show! The worst thing that I have ever seen or had happen to me at a show was to have some beer dumped in my hair and my son had some dumped on his shoes.

I think it is horrible to deprive your children of something or someone that they may never see again...I only wish I'd had the chance to see Steve Clark or Cliff Burton. Call it as you wish...
