There were a lot of cars(some traffic) and all of a sudden the light turned red, I was in the middle but it still might count I was wondering are there any red light cameras there. I don't live there so I don't know, I live in White Plains. I'm just wondering if I should expect something in the mail..I also was not speeding I was probably going 30 or 40 something. I checked online and it listed nothing I typed in Waldorf to see if the site worked and that came up so I'm just being careful. Thanks.

Cameras are popping up all over the place.

If you are behind me in a 25mph zone I will be doing 25, Yellow light, I will stop.

I got one of those mailed speeding tickets two day ago. I was doing 38 in a 25. The camera was set right where the limit changed. UGH.

Just add another fun thing to my week of fun things.

Bullsh1t ... It turned yellow for several seconds prior to suddenly turning red, you weren't paying attention to your driving.

That sucks. D:

Thanks, it's so hard for people to just answer questions like the douche above.

Unfortunately, he's right. Lights have safeties and triggers such that a light can't just turn red, even if it was triggered by an emergency vehicle approaching. It will always turn yellow first.

And even if it there were a red light camera, the cameras don't change the light, they just shoot your picture when you are in the intersection while the light is red. The camera cannot command the light to change.

Every light in this county turns yellow for several seconds prior to "suddenly turning red". If you think they don't feel free to report it to the state highway administration and please pay attention to your driving before you kill somebody.

fyi - that's not :bs: up your ass, that's your head

Right now, at least, there are none in St Marys County. And you should know that state law prohibits any automated speed enforcement from issuing a ticket for any speed less than 12mph over the limit. So if you had been going my recommended 7-9mph over, you should have been fine.

Where did you get this ticket, I have to ask?

In My Opinion

I have to half believe what the poster said.
there is a red light camera in Annapolis on Riva, light at Admiral Cochran,, or maybe the next one past it?
In the early morning hours, the light timing changes.

I went through a couple years back at 5:30 am, and (at the speed limit) I was almost at the light when it went yellow, really could not stop before I crossed the line so I went on through, just as I passed the line the cameras flashed. I got the ticket in the mail.

the yellow might have been 2 seconds.
If you go later in the day, you have all the time in the world to stop at the yellow, maybe get out and wash your windows etc.. before it goes red, but early morning? nope.
Its almost like they have a sensor that detects the car traveling to the light then flips the light in time to ensure they get your cash.

after all, who is going to waste a day in court to fight a small non point ticket? Not many.

I know all yellows on 235 north and south between Gate 2 and Route 4 are five seconds long. I have that direct from the SHA official in charge of them.

That said, places with red light cameras have been caught before shorting yellows in the name of increased revenue. None in Md that I know of, but that doesnt indicate it hasn't happened

Just read a story in USA Today that indicts municpalities that use for profit companies to install, maintain and operate the sytems. The companies actually have cluases in the contract that prohibts the local government from lengthing the time, the company actually gets to set the length of the yellow. With local government budgets getting tighter and tighter, they find it hard to argue with tweaking the timing to increase the number of tickets.
Then they get a government funded group to say how bad it is to run red lights and that the cameras cut down on it...
What they forget to add is that making the light quicker isn't going to make more cars stop, it's probably going to increase the number of accidents as cars will find it harder to stop before the light goes red.

About a month ago I got a parking ticket in Alexandria while parked at an electronic parking meter. The fine was to be paid to one of those "outsourced" companies that run the meters.

I emailed their adjudication office requesting a copy of the most recent testing and calibration data for the parking meter in question along with a copy of the Standard Operating Procedure for the testing and calibration of Alexandria parking meters. They called me and told me they decided to dismiss my ticket.

I was guilty as hell and was prepared to pay the fine but I was gonna make them work for it first (cut into their profit margin).
