Does my butt look big?
If you AKC register him you have to get the AKC dog registration from the breeder...

If he just looks like a certain breed take a pic of him and fill out the aplication to CKC and they will give you papers..just like a bubble gum machine..

"Did You Know: We are guessing that the general public is not aware of how doomed black dogs are when they are brought to a pound because black dogs, particularly black labs or lab mixes, are euthanized at a horrifying rate at many pounds & shelters because people pass them up for lighter colored dogs. If you are thinking about adopting a dog please don't overlook black dogs because they are just as loving & wonderful as lighter colored dogs"

he is a pure lab and would only have pure puppys
Who cares? There are PLENTY of purebred labs currently at the shelter and in rescue groups. We have 2 purebred labs in our group. There is an overabundance of labs - check out lab rescues and then ask why you would want to add to that population. Its a known fact that black dogs are put down at shelters at alarming rates - not just our local shelter, everywhere.
Nothing against a great breeder that checks bloodlines and does all to guarantee the health of the pups, keep the genetic line clean and all that. It takes more knowledge than just slapping together a purebred male and female lab.
Volunteer a few wks at the shelter and volunteer at a rescue. You'll see what we're talking about.

I'd say you'd be better served by spending your money on an English Composition class.

That will benefit you the rest of your life, and won't cost a single animal it's life.

That is a lie. No way in hell you worked in a shelter and are stupid enough to make more dogs.

do they have to be registered to do dog shows?

I have not shown dogs but to the best of my knowledge AKC type shows on conformation your dog needs to be AKC registered (Well I know this is true) ..I think in agility you don't have to have a registered dog..Anyway for any show that MEANS ANYTHING you need an AKC registered dog and you can only do that by contacting the breeder of your dog and getting a individual dog registration paper..they had to previously get a litter registration. And you need full registration papers not LIMITED..

I'm guessing a reputable breeder (or one who wants to become one) would know where to find the answers to these questions...and doesn't have to go on a random forum to find the answers. :jet:

You always say what I'm thinking CG!

Misty, truly, if you're just doing this as a money making proposition - please reconsider. It doesn't sound like you have the experience to even judge if your dog is worthy enough to breed. That alone should make you think twice about going forward with this.
