Rental/House Sharing

Hi I’m sorta new to Southern Maryland. I’ve actually lived here for 2 years but I was more or less living in a dungeon with a very controlling husband. :wench:
Well, he just got transferred down to Georgia and they came and packed all our stuff and took it there and I forgot to go too. OOPS!!!
Anyway, now I’m willingly stranded in this high-priced area with 2 girls ages 11 and almost 9. They have been in Mechanicsville schools and with all the other changes in their lives I’d like to try my best to keep them there.
After looking for a rental and realizing I probably won’t be able to afford much in this area I’m now looking for maybe someone in a similar situation (another single mom) to hook up with and split a house and costs.
I was going to put an ad in the classifieds on somd.com when I sort of bumped into this forum and thought I’d try here first.
I have a temporary place to stay but I’m really looking to find something very quickly. So, if you know anyone renting out maybe a basement apt. or maybe you know another single mom looking please let me know.
BTW I do have a couple of pets and I want to keep it that way if at all possible. They are my babies too.

Did you get to keep the hardware, or did he take it with him?

Well, it looks like I know where to turn to should I ever be in need of a "hook up."
As far as being cute my kids tell me I'm very pretty and look too young to be their mother. But, then again I do pay them their allowance!!!
And the X kept everything including his torture chamber gear. However, if you are ever in need of any tactics I learned his ways.

Isn't that funny, I left my ex in Georgie and your ex went to Georgia. Small world. Welcome and I hope you find a room/housemate soon. :howdy:

Can you afford to buy and take in a roommate? House across the street from me was a rental and the owner has decided to sell. It looks like brand new on the inside (house was only 4 years old to begin with, but owner repainted and recarpeted before listing). He may also be open to going back to rental status. I believe it was renting for about $1500. 3 bedroom, 2 bath before he finished part of the basement. Not sure what all he put in down there.

Leslie, that's the route I went with. In the long-term, it'll pay off the most. If you have the cash (as little as 6 or 7k, possibly less) I'd suggest this. If you want to take this route, I can give you a starting point. With a CDA loan, you get a very good interest rate, and help with the closing costs.

Do you have the cash buffer to possibly get a place (either rent or buy) and then look for a roomy? What type of housing are you willing to settle for? Price range (monthly rent or mortgage)?

I so hear you on this subject. Stuff around here is crazy expensive for a single mom. My sister just moved in my townhouse to help me out.

:yay:

It's nice to have a roommate, especially with two kids. I have very fond memories of my roommate-before-Larry - she was my kids' other mother.
