I agree with you. I don't think there viable life either. I just think that this technology could benefit people in the future. Maybe not 5 years from now, but sometime in the future. My Grandmother has Alzheimers Disease, and I know it's too late for her, but I could be in her shoes 30 or 40 years from now, and stem cell research may save me or my siblings from this disease.
