You are missing the point. Far too many animals are euthanized because a happy ending could not be found. That is why this thread, and the story of Molly is exceptional, and truly wonderful. Thank you ancient for reaching out with hope, and thank you desert for opening your heart, even more. :huggy:

I have to admit Apollo is adorable, especially, in his flotation device. But, a getaway weekend with friend pet sitters is a totally different situation than Molly's, and the purpose of this thread.

But as far as the "feelings" of the dog, it is the exact same thing. We project our human emotions of abandonment and rejection onto animals that do not have those feelings. To them one pair of loving arms is the same as another.

With all due respect, I have to disagree with you, again. Many pets pass away not too long after their owners. There are many stories of pets going to their master's grave, and refusing to leave. I agree with you that some are adaptable, but it is not always the case. I know Molly is in good hands, and I hope she has many more enjoyable years to come.

I have to agree with Mama on this one. When we were in the process of moving here, my husband was stationed in Seattle for a year before transferring here. I moved here to get the family settled in while we waited for our house in Texas to sell. During all of this I had my best friend take care of our cats until we were situated.

My fat cat suffered severe anxiety and chewed all his fur off, refused to eat, and lost a great deal of weight. He looked extremely sickly when we got him back. My best friend is a crazy animal lover like I am, fosters animals, and knows a great deal about their medical needs. My other two cats were just fine.

The day we arrived to pick them up, all three made a B-line directly to us and wrapped themselves around our legs and meowed to be held.

Within the first month my fat cat grew all his hair back and gained all his weight back.

Another example....

When a pet is stolen and/or lost during a move, they manage to make their way home, months later even years later over thousands of miles. Now that more people have become aware of that, more are reunited because the owners know to either go back and check or have neighbors keeping an eye out for them.

By the same token, many pets try to return to their old homes after they are moved with their family to a new home.

That's how I got my first dog. He was moved and came back to the only house he had known, having traveled about 50 miles. The dog had obviously been abused. The owner stopped by to see if he was there. I refused to give him back and he became mine. It took a lot of work and time to get the dog to trust me, but we managed. He was a loyal friend for another 8 years. He would lay his head in my lap, stare into my eyes, and sigh contentedly as if he was in love.

Yoda and Molly. I think she's fitting in just fine.
