Does anyone know or have any info on, if they even have them in SoMD, Ride-Along or Scared Straight Programs for teenagers? I am originally from Ma. and I know we had them there when I was in school. Just wondering if they are available here.

You actually think a "ride-along" in southern Maryland will scare a teenager?

Not really sure. Just looking for info. Personally, I would be willing to take the kid to Waldorf or even DC and drop them off for a few hours if it would help. Seeing things first hand seems to leave more of an impression on a teenager.

Yes, because finding others to set your kid straight is always much easier than doing it yourself. :yay:

I doubt it will even phase them. I mean, look how many teen moms we have, even AFTER seeing pictures/slides/videos in child development classes. I suggest a tour through your local coroner's office. :yay:

I showed my oldest son pictures of a nasty fatal accident 2-years ago. I know it is sick, but a child was tossed out the back window of a Suburban. I have never had a problem getting him to wear his seat belt since.

Now, him and his brother really enjoy watching this medical show. They had a child that drove his bike out in the street and was hit by a car. It makes them think each time they cross the road now, I think.

The Maryland State Police does not have any program like that, the Charles County Sheriff's Office does have a non-paid cadet program for teens. You'll have to call St. Mary's to see if they have anything like that.

You may be on to something.... I watched "Faces of Death" as a teen and vowed never to attempt to feed bears, bungee jump with a cord that's too long, or lean over boats when there are giant crocs in the water. :shocking:

Or eat monkey brains.

That was the most disturbing part of the movie. I could not believe they could bash that poor monkey over the head with a hammer and eat his brain. :bawl: I will never forget those monkey screams.

You guys are killing me here. I don't have any children. I am looking up info for a friend. I am not looking for someone to take over parental duties either. My friend is a very good parent, I just remember what the Ride-Along did for me. My highschool offered it as an elective program. It's an eye opener.

I guess posting here is easier than calling the police departments and getting reliable information from the sources that might be involved with the program.

They don't have children. He is helping a friend who called him instead of the police department. Keep up! :yay:

 I understand that he's helping a friend. Just saying it might be better to seek the info from the source
