Rolands Potato Salad

I’ve tried many different variations and still can’t get the flavor down! I feel like we need an inside man another Southern Maryland Staple is the McKay’s Coleslaw. McKay’s is closing all its stores and soon that recipe will be gone. I asked a store associate for it since it’s closing and they refused to give it!!

Hollywood too? Where will I get my cole slaw, potato salad, crab dip, fried chicken etc? They also would sell local produce in the summer from a local farmer. This is so disappointing

Wifey converted when we were married. She used to be Roman Catholic and Miracle Whip. After we married she was Episcopal and mayo. I don't think her father ever quite forgave me for that.

I went to the Hollywood store about a week ago and things were pretty scarce and there was nothing in the seafood case. I asked the cashier if they were closing. She said they hadn't told them they were and that they had gotten some deliveries recently. Today I decided to try the Charlotte Hall store, thinking that being bigger and busier they would have stuff. Nope....that place was even more baren than Hollywood last week.
I'm sad to see them go. They carried so many things you just can't get elsewhere.

I was also in there a week ago and noticed nothing in the meat department. I did ask the check out kid if they were closing soon and he said yes, very quietly.

Celery seed, celery salt, or even fresh celery is pretty standard. Sweet pickle juice or sweet relish is used a lot for sweetness. Do you think it might have a dollop of sour cream for the creaminess?

I’m 100% sure it’s made there. One time it was out and the lady at the deli said they would be making more and it would be ready later in the day.

Trust me this is potato salad of all potato salads haha. One bite and you’ll be hooked. It’s silky smooth and has the right amount of egg with a subtle sweetness. There is no crunch from vegetables but you can see and taste the celery seed.

I’m sure it does have some mustard in it bunch just enough to make it an off white beige color .

I had the pleasure of trying Rolands potato salad this past week. A friend got some of their chicken for dinner and asked if I wanted the potato salad as a side. Funny, he doesn’t eat potato salad but asked me to give it a grade. I gave it a 9 out of 10. It was really good, but I like a little more crunch and it was a tad bit sweet. I really liked that it was creamy and not runny or juicy like some store bought brands.

They have 2 types Homemade and I assume normal which aint bad either but no match for the homemade

I am too. I won't even list the things I would get there that you couldn't get (or as good) anywhere else.

I know we are talking potato salad, but it kinda sounds like the cole slaw I had from Uncle D's Grill in the Park. I was commenting to my wife how creamy it was.

Another +1 for Uncle D's Grill. The only downside is most of their sides with entrees are only like 3 bites. At least it helps me with portion control because I could go until I pop. The thing I appreciate most about them is their non-roided out chicken. The wings and thighs are small, but the meat is some of the best I've had.

My wife said the same thing about their chicken. We both agreed that it is really good.

It dawned on me yesterday and I was thinking about their cole slaw. The mouth feel of the dressing reminded me of full fat Greek yogurt.

I reached out to Rolands. The potato salad is a secret recipe. Given how you all are raving about it, I have to believe whoever wrote me back. Keep that recipe locked up.

IT IS very good potato salad and I'm very picky!! Haven't had any in awhile, though.
