its not so much the dirt that we are concerned with.
that little cheap chinese roll out thing is machined produced, no love or care goes into the process.\
but!!!
If you go to a nursery, you are buying plants that have been loved, and raised from a tiny little sprout into a thing of beauty, carefully watched day after day, watered, fertilized, culled until you end up with a finished product that can be the envy of your entire neighborhood..

please do not be that section 8 tenent with the cheap flowers that look bad and weedy all year long.. NO, NO I SAY, purchase quality, and recieve quality.

its just so easy.

I agree, this is how mine came out after 3 weeks of trying to tend to it, water it, etc... it looks like crap :frown: I thought for sure at least a FEW flowers would have come out of it - it came with over 2,000 seeds :frown:

Dems,

That just looks... sad, like the garden got an infection. I'm wondering how these things would grow in flower pots and I might just try that. I know I'm probably gonna be pissed I wasted my money.

You're better off just getting a pack of seeds, like zinna seeds. I always have luck with those. But NOT the giant ones if you are going to put them in a pot. I put some dahlia bulbs in a pot and the squirrels dug them all out and ate them, leaving the remains on my deck railing.

I'll have you know I buy my stuff from Zimmerman's already grown. Does that count as buying from a local nursery? I'm a Zimmerman's ho.

I have not had any luck with the Gerbera daisies at home, but we bought some for work and they are doing very well. Any secrets to keeping them looking well all summer?

...remove the blooms as they fade out and you need to keep feeding it to keep new leaves coming. Each leaf on a gerber has the potential for 1 bloom. As the blooms die out, you need new foliage coming to keep the flowers coming.

Crrap. It's at work. All we do is water. What kind of fertilizer do I need to get? Just the stuff for flowers that you sprinkle into the soil or something specific? I'm not hooking that Miracle Grow thing to the hose cause I always end up with it all over my hands. What do I get to fertilize? Oh, there are impatiens in there also.

...a general purpose feed, balanced, around 150-200 ppm (moderately strong)

Larry, my Snap Dragons aren't getting any bushier yet... I may have to resort to artificial flowers after all...
