Roofing contractor opinions

I've checked past threads for people looking for a contractor. That's not what this one is for. I've gotten estimates from three companies and would like opinions from those that have used them on how each were doing the work, keeping to their estimates, cleaning up afterwards, etc. I got estimates from Snell & Sons, Roofing by George, and Gray's Home Improvement. I got Park Place Contractors coming Monday to give me an estimate. The job's going to one of them, so any additional information would be great. Thanks.

I'd advise strongly AGAINST Roofing by George. They did a horrible job and the 30-year roof needed repairs and replacement one year after they installed it. Plywood sheathing was popping up, shingles were incorrectly installed, and the thing started leaking. And they refused to fix their mistakes.

Thanks. They were the highest estimate so far. If there are any particular things about them you can PM me if you don't want to post it.

I went with Snellling & Sons and am happy with the work they did. Roofing by George was also my highest estimate, and I based that on apples & apples (sometimes estimates can be slightly off each other on work to be done, and that can make a huge difference in the pricing). My only caution here is to make sure the pricing and the work are equal for all of your estimates. Good luck. :yay:

Im shocked to hear that about Roofing by George. They did my roof about 4 years ago now, and I've had no issues at all.

Mine was a bit complicated too...Had to add a layer of sheathing over top of existing foam insulation AND had to hide the nails in the Beam areas, as my house is a post and beam construction with an open ceiling design.

No problems with them at all. And, they were the cheapest estimate by far out of 4 that I had gotten.

My husband and I had a new roof put on our house last December, right before the first big snow storm. We received an estimate from Roofing by George, which was also our highest estimate too. We went with GBG Contractors out of Stevensville, MD, but they also have employees that live in the area locally. They matched a competitors price, but gave us a little more bang for our buck - like mold/mildew preventive shingles since we have a lot of trees around our house. Clean up was okay; I'm a detail-oriented person, so I did find a few bits of scrap pieces here and there scattered around the yard. If you want another estimate their phone number is (410) 643-1740. Good luck!

Thanks for the information, but I ended up going with Park Place Contractors out of Huntingtown.

I know you have arleady chosen, but I know others wil look at this, so I'll add my experience with Roofing By George. They did my roof about 4 years ago. Complete tearoff, some sheathing repair, back 1/3rd (low angle porch) got full waterproof membrane under the shingles. Not a problem since.

I have to agree! We used Boone Roofing 2 years ago. Our home in Mechanicsville was 25 yrs old and the roof looked like it was 50 yrs old. We had an issue with the roof over an addition that was built prior to us buying the home. They alerted us to the issue, fixed the problem and didn't charge us any more than his original estimate. They did a great job, were careful with our landscaping and cleaned up everything, no evidence they were there! The roof is wonderful and although it wasn't the lowest estimate, it wasn't the highest either. I would recommend them to everyone, they were great.

We went with Snelling and sons and we were very satisfied with the price and their performance. They did the job in accordance with the agreed-upon schedule and cleaned up after the job as promised. No complaints and no problems and we made it through the snowstorms, etc. with no problems.

It is Snell & Sons.

I think it's something about the "&" sound. "Snell &" makes me think of Snell-ing, or something. Also have a friend with the last name of Snelling. Funny how we both did it. And when I posted it, I had the bill sitting right in front of me. :lmao:

:lmao: Yeah....don't think we'll make that mistake again!

Roof with Hail Damage

Has anyone had any experience with American Home Specialists in relation to having a new roof due to hail damage. I would be interested in knowing if they do a good job.
