Roy Rogers is coming back to Laplata

Supposedly Kohls is coming in LaPlata as well - behind the Pepsi plant...

A friend of mine is going to be working for the Town of LaPlata - I think as the Director of Ops (I believe) - man, is he going to be inheriting a nightmare! Glad he is not the Town Planner because it is going to pot... becoming a mini-Waldorf with all the traffic lights and such.

Not anymore it's not. It's somewhere between Waldorf, Hillbilly Hell and Retirement City USA.

Between the drivers (most of then senior citizens) being unable to maintain the minimum speed (40 in a 50) and having Dash In and CVS at every single corner and the numbers of crimes and stuff in that area. It's a hellhole. Even the KFC there taste like poo.

La Plata's nothing like what it used to be. JMO.

No its alot nicer now after the tornado, the downtown area was rebuilt very nicely, several nice neighborhoods, Kings Grant, Clarks Run and others.
There is very little crime in the town limits. Whats wrong with senior citizens Im not there yet but Im close, I'd spit you out of my tailpipes, you wouldnt be able to keep up.:killingme

It sure is - I worked at the safeway (the old one, before it went to a super-store ) when I was in HS. We go to LaPlata before Waldorf; especially the WalMart - we avoid GhettoMart in Waldorf...

For a change of pace we go to Hollywood... I really try to avoid shopping in Waldorf... too much of a hassle getting around.

But - the traffic in LaPlata is getting rough! That is what I meant above from "going to pot"

I could in the Grand Am. :yahoo:

I think the traffic in La Plata is no better than in Waldorf. At least people can drive within 10mph of the speed limit in Waldorf. Usually, the drivers are more curteous in Waldorf (let you change lanes and the like). I try to do little acts of kindness on the road (let people in and such) but nobody in La Plata has a clue how that operates.

Most of the people there wouldn't even spare the urin to pizz on you if you were on fire.

La Plata, to me, is like Waldorf in drag. At least most of the restraunts in Waldorf are worth eating at.

Waldorf is ten times better than La Plata.

I agree on one thing, too many stoplights, I believe thats why the Kohl's won't come to town, is the stoplight they want to put at the Pepsi plant.
The town council voted againest the shopping center I believe.

I heard at the town meeting the developer said "it was already done" and the "new light on 301 will help with traffic" A buddy of mine was there for something else and heard this... let me get hold of Vic Newman (town counsil, use to work with him) and find out what the deal-eo is...

There's a stop light everywhere in La Plata. But, they won't put a light where they absolutely need to (Rosewick & Washington Ave). They have to do something about that intersection, but they choose to ignore it. Everybody goes down Washington Ave. to avoid the red lights and then if you're coming off Rosewick in rush hour, you sit there for 10 minutes at a time. That intersection is absolutely effing ridiculous. I used to leave right exactly at 4:00, because if you leave any later than that, you'll spend more time at that intersection than you will driving. :tantrum:

They have red lights everywhere that they DON'T need them, and nothing where they do need them. It's a driver's nightmare down there.

I think one is suppose to go in there after they are done... so the dump trucks can run it!!!

Why??? You don't like the GhettoMart?

I do have to agree it is a bit better to change lanes in Waldorf as the lights are spread a bit further apart and people do get on the gas quicker while others lag...
I go to Waldorf Wal-Mart all the time. They always have what I am looking for. It's quick and convinent, only a mile away.

Route 5 sucks, but at least someone has the courtsey to let me change lanes. I drive on these roads every day and I really believe Waldorf's traffic is better.

The only consistently bad drivers here have Virginia license plates. That's because they don't have the balls to do what they do here in VA anymore. :jet:

Well, the dump trucks are EVERYWHERE in La Plata also.

Some of them can be rude, but they usually accelerate faster than these Seniors in their boxy fugly Lincolns.

Southern Maryland, I do believe, is dump truck capitol of the USA.

But there are some nice looking rigs on the road....:yahoo:
