Maryland State Police in La Plata are investigating a crash that has left a young Calvert man dead.

Rescue crews responded to a serious motor vehicle crash along MD Route 231 in the area of Bucktown Road in Hughesville around 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4.

Investigation revealed a silver 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by David Michael Krankowski, 20 of St. Leonard, was traveling westbound Maryland Route 231. In a no passing zone, Krankowski was passing other vehicles traveling westbound Maryland Route 231.

A 2004 Ford Econoline Van driven by Dean Allen Justice, 52 of Huntingtown, was traveling eastbound Maryland Route 231. The driver of the Eclipse lost control subsequently colliding with the Ford van. Krankowski, the driver of the Eclipse was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

What a waste of life!

Too many idiotic chances being taken by careless drivers, way to many!

Be safe out their people...

I can understand the frustration. I travel that road to work and more times than not there is someone doing 10 miles under the speed limit the whole way. Of course, when you are in passing zones there are a thousand cars coming.

Unfortunately, he took a bad risk and paid the price. Just not worth it.

Long stretch of 2-lane road, much of it no-passing zone. I know I've gotten behind more than one pokey driver on that road. It's easy to get impatient.

:yeahthat:
Sometimes I swear it would be faster for me to drive south and cross the Rt. 4 bridge and then drive back up to Prince Frederick than it is to go across 231 behind the people that don't know how to maintain constant speed or do below the speed limit.

I can understand the frustration too, been stuck behind slow drivers more times than I can count. Hubby used to travel down 231 for work and got stuck behind a farm tractor many times on his way to work. :cds:

That road is just too heavily travelled to pass in most areas. While I'm sorry the driver was killed, I'd rather see the at fault party hurt/killed than an innocent driver. My thoughts are with his family/friends.
