Rt 235

Well some have been speeding, whether you agree or not I have been tailgated, and semantics, merged into my lane while I was right next to it, clearly rushed or aggressive driving, no need to be a dick about it.
Excuse the hell out of me you pinhead! Where the @#$% was I a dick about it?

I never said they didn't speed. All I said was that the buses have governors that limit them to 65 (I think that's what the driver said, may be 70) which is NOT "well over the speed limit". Try driving the speed limit on any road around here and see how fast you get a line of cars behind you with annoyed drivers.
If you are next to a bus, or any large vehicle, you need to be aware that they have a large blind spot and may not be able to see you. YOU need to be a defensive driver around them.
Yes, they do cut people off when in stop and go traffic and they need to merge. Why? because most people won't give them an opening into which to merge and when people DO give them an opening, dumbasses zoom up and swoop in to take the spot, thus blocking the bus.
You never mentioned tailgaiting in your original post. I will give you that some of the drivers are real bad about that. However, they can see much further up the road in front of you and are able to give more space well before you need it. Again, if they stay back further, they get cut off by cars.

The buses cannot go "well over the speed limit". They have speed governors. And buses cannot "weave", just too darn big. Many times they are changing lanes due to a car cutting them off (they cannot stop on a dime you know).

I have to disagree with you here. More than once I've seen these buses pull out of the left turn lane (from a standstill) and into travel speed traffic to avoid the light @ Golden Beach Rd.

I dont know what happened and feel awful about the situation but I drive past that interection monday thru friday and people always pull out and cause drivers on 235 to slam on brakes or swerve over and cut off the car in the fast lane. I dont know if that happened in this situation but thats what it sounds like to me. Regardless if the bus was speeding or not speeding, it is the responsibility of the person merging into traffic to make sure it is safe to do so.

Oh I agree, just saying that from my experience, the bus drivers are not always in the right either. I do wonder how the driver of the car was t-boned if she was not crossing the highway and only was turning right?

Pinhead...thanks Bill O, pulling out all the stops. You were debating semantics in an accident that neither of us know the true reason for, and where someone who was well loved died and someone else was severly injured. Now, I agree, I brought up a point that may or may not be related, but I was just putting it out there.

I was discussing normal driving, not traffic where some need to merge, driving 55-60 in the same area where this accident occurred. If I am seeing how this accident happened correctly, the driver of the car was likely at fault, but if the bus as you say were going 70 and not 55, that is a significant difference around that somewhat blind curve, especially for a woman of 75 who probably does not gun it when she takes off from a stop. Should older folks need to take a driving test again, maybe so, I have had many issues with the older generation pulling out in front of me as well, but to just say that the bus driver played no part without knowing seems wrong too.

Most likely, she was heading for the cut through in the center, in preparation for going south.

Who's Bill O?

I never said the bus was going 70.

You did not specify in your original post what type of traffic you were talking about (stop and go or free flow).

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it?

Yes, I have seen them do that too. That is dumb of them. We've been on the bus for 1.5-2 hours at that point. 2 more minutes for the light to change again isn't going to kill us. But pulling that stunt may. Trust me, I agree that some of the drivers need to have their license pulled and the bus shoved up their backsides due to them being such bad drivers.

or going for the left lane to get to the light to make the left of 245?
prayers to the family... this is so sad

Possible, but less probable. Some folks do go straight across, then a sharp right, but most folks make an angle cut for that.

Kind of the way I read it based on what I saw at the scene but I am no reconstructor but its a good guess. Car took a really good shot to the drivers door. Very sad.

I never said that you did, just saying that because you said it was governed at 65-70. That being said, it is a blind turn and if I were going to get a choice between being t-boned by a bus going 45mph (after braking from 55mph) or 60mph (after braking from 70mph), I would of course choose the 45 option.

Anyway, lets move on, a life was lost and that is the most important thing here, working on how to prevent it next time is something that can be discussed later.
