sailboat crash

There is a junior program run out of the area (High School). They just started practice sessions and use a small dingy boats like the ones used down at SMC. More than likely with the front pushing through and the sudden increase in wind, they were caught off-gaurd.

Of course, speculation on my part...

Sounds more likely than a bunch of little boats running into each other. There were several good blasts of wind when that front pushed through.

then somebody needs a :smack:
I watch the weather channel to see if I can ride. Think if I was responsible for a bunch of kids, I'd be keeping the ole' weather eye on the sky.

Absolutely, it is up to coaches, etc. to ensure that the present as well as expected conditions are taken into consideration when sending the teams out on the water.

I will say these high schoolers are established sailors, wear the appropriate safety gear including dry/wet suits and have sailed in trying conditions. Again my post was speculation and I will reserve opinions untill I know the facts.

PS: This might not be the small boats at all, people are starting to lauch boats with the warm weather. Could of been a few boats out doing shake-downs

Not me.
I'm jumping to the conclusion that several boats crashed and burned even though they don't have any fuel on board.
Dayum kids were probably wearing heelies without proper supervision.

It's good that they had on wetsuits and all are out of the water, but it could have be really tragic. Someone should have checked the weather, they've been talking about weather changes all day.

We were flying when the front pushed in... powerful winds had us scrambling to get the kites in. We then took our usual ride down to the Island. They said they were from the sailing club and I had my camera with me.
