It is the Sheriff that changed the Detention Center policy to be non-responsive to ICE detainer requests. Which defacto made St. Mary's County a sanctuary county. The County Commissioners were not part of this decision, out of the loop they were.
The Sheriff, Steven A. Hall, has never made a public statement regarding the refusal of ICE detainer requests, he left his assistant Sheriff to make an ambiguous statement. Everyone in St. Mary's County should hound Sheriff Hall into making a public statement about this, including within that statement as to how/why ICE has them listed as non-cooperative in the first place. Because there is a reason. ICE just does not list entities as non-cooperative if they are in fact cooperative. Let those email blasts begin!
Also, everyone should ask for a list of names of all those individuals, and the crimes that were allegedly committed, that were released from detention/jail rather than being handed over to ICE.
