How do people fall for this sht??

Just want to share this in hopes of preventing it from happening to someone else. Yesterday while at work I received a call, to my work office (not my personal phone) asking for me. It was someone claiming to be a Bay County Sherriff officer- and long story short after 1.5 hour on the phone, threats made and manipulation I was scammed. Being that I’ve never been in any trouble before, and being preyed on through my fear, I unfortunately obeyed orders. The information this “officer knew” the conversation had was so unbelievably believable that they broke me. I feel so stupid, this was textbook. I am aware of scams and have always easily detected them, but this felt so real and I can’t explain it. But that’s how it happens. This supposedly is a common scam in the area, and has been reported since August 2024. Well- it is still occurring. I filed my reports, and have been informed I most likely won’t receive the money back. Please be aware, and on guard. I have learned my lesson and will be completely making changes within my life.

Apparently the scammer said they were Bay County Sheriff's and there was a warrant for her arrest. She could pay the fine over the phone, though, to avoid incarceration.

🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

WHY WOULD SOMEONE FALL FOR THAT?? Seriously, when someone is sofa king dumb they get taken by something so absurd I think, good, you deserved that. Now be smarter, dumbass. :smack:

I KEEP getting texts claiming I am in default on tolls and I need to pay up or they're gonna cancel my license and/or registration.

Last one said I owed about six bucks. They had a link where most of it looked legit.

The things that didn't? An amount ending in .99. Since when have you ever paid a toll that was 8.99 or 10.99 ?

The kicker was the reference to the Maryland ----

DMV.

Maryland might be the only state in the country that DOESN'T call it the DMV - it's the MVA so as not to confuse with the numerous DelMarVa references.

I get those texts too but never from any state I've ever been too. One was from Texas and the other was somewhere in the mid-West.

Humans must be getting dumber. I remember when the scams were clever and sophisticated. Now they don't even try - "Hey, this here's Joe Bob at the Sheriff's office and you're under arrest...."

They are.

If someone tried to scam, whoopee, joy, and the crew of the view they make millions. They’re all convinced Trump is going to be putting them in a Gulag.

"Breezeline" keeps sending me two or three emails a week telling me my email will be disabled if i don't upgrade to their newest software.

Kind of wish Breezeline would filter the email at their server a little better.
