Anyone heard about this? I just got this e-mail from a co-worker. Don't now if it's a hoax or not.

Hello All-

Yesterday we got briefed by NCIS on an incident that occurred out in town
that directly affected the security of our base.

Around 1700 Monday, 23 July, a truck driver of Middle Eastern decent
approached a Hispanic man in the San Souci parking lot area offering him
$200 to drive his trailer truck on base. The Hispanic man turned him
away and then reported it to the authorities. No one knows what was in
the trailer truck nor did the trailer truck attempt to gain access to the
base. The Security group wants to spread the word so everyone can be very
vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. They are
asking that if anyone notices anything to please call 911 and identify their
location and what they have seen. Local authorities are aware and are on
the lookout for this individual or any other suspicious activities.

Please disseminate this information to your groups, the more awareness we
have, the better.

This is a notice from MTA. Apparently, there have been suspicious individuals on some of the Keller/Dillon buses asking questions of the drivers...things that regular commuters wouldn't ask...

Help us be the eyes and ears
of the Commuter Bus System!

Bus drivers and the MTA’s Commuter Bus staff cannot constantly monitor all situations. While Commuter Bus employees serve as the first line of the MTA’s security efforts, passengers can play a vital role. This is what a passenger can do to help.

* Become aware of fellow passengers.
· If they are not “regulars,” are they
acting nervous?
· Are they asking drivers or passengers
specific questions about the bus operations
and security measures?
Are they wearing too much clothing
for the temperature?
* Keep personal belongings near at all times.
* Remember to take along personal
belongings when you reach your destination.
* Also, immediately remind a fellow passenger
about a package inadvertently left behind.
* Be alert for suspicious vehicles idling in
bus parking lots or loading zones.
* Be vigilant of your surroundings at all
times.
* Alert the bus driver to any abandoned or
suspicious package, unusual activity, or
unusual behavior.

The bottom line is that passengers are the eyes and ears of the Commuter Bus System. If during a bus commute one sees or experiences something that “isn’t quite right,” please notify the bus driver, or contact local law enforcement. The MTA appreciates customers’ patience and understanding that this level of security is necessary in today’s environment.

Or just pop open one of those escape windows and throw the towel head out onto Branch Ave.

Stop Staring!!!!!
Monday night while at work on Base listening to my scanner I heard the County Police looking for a Blue Kenworth Tractor Trailer with a Middle Eastern looking Driver. They referenced looking for it at the request of DOD. They looked at most of the local shopping centers and such where truck drivers are known to sleep for the night.

I get off work at 0700 and coming out Gate 1 there was a County officer sitting 'on base'. Just outside gate 1 at the turn off to go to gate 1's pass office. I was also told there was another county officer watching Gate 2 as well. Likely one at Gate 3 I suppose.

I never heard what they were looking for this truck for. Until I saw this post. Thanks.

I was associating it with the theft up in Charles county of the Soil test rig that contained some sort of radioactive material that they were announcing on the Local 97.7 radio station this morning. I guess I was wrong in associating the 2 incidents.

Yep, apparently on the Dillon runs.

And there's been heightened awareness regarding buses in general..that's why they've stopped the tour buses from going down the Independence in between "office" buildings and the Capitol building.

If they found it I never heard about it. I listened to the scanner some yesterday evening and again all night at work and never heard any more about it.

I will add that the base police did not verbally discuss the tractor trailer over the radio while I was at work Monday night. I guess all the Guards at the gates were watching for it and there was no need to keep repeating it on the radio.

The county police did keep repeating the description throughout the night Monday night though.

I think I'd take the $200 and the truck and go straight to the cops. Let the guy try to get out of here on foot.
The problem with that is all he does is dial in the number of the throway phone buried in the explosives in the truck you are now driving and into orbit you go.
:whoosh:
