We've done it for a few years now. The first year I went to the school to help present the backpacks along with some of the others that organized the event. I cannot tell you how many of those little kids just grabbed onto me and hugged me and thanked me...for school supplies...amazing.

wow :huggy: That is wonderful. I wonder if my boys school is doing that  That is something worth checking into...thanks for the idea :yay:

:huggy: Most excellent!

I took the trio to get their "critical" items (particular notebooks and folders and for girl a bookbag) two weeks ago. The boys tote so much they go through a couple of backpacks a year so I spent the cash on LL Bean for them this time. We'll see if they can handle the 50+ lbs the boys carry. I keep regular school supplies in the house and my kids wear uniforms so clothing isn't an issue. I've only got to get a few items now and they make us buy them at the school - so we're almost done.
I would be so happy if public schools did that! I'm strict on what the girl wears and all I hear about is what the other girls get away with wearing at school. I can't believe some people let their kids out of the house with the hoochie stuff they have on.

In many cases they don't. The kids change at school or if mom and dad leave for work before the bus - change quick at home.

:yeahthat: My daughter will be going into the 8th grade and I was shocked to see the outfits that some of these girls wear to school.:yikes:

Target has GREAT prices on school supplies.

have any of you seen the " classroom wishlist" thing that target has? how do you feel about it? would you buy stuff if your kids' teacher(s) had one?

(i haven't really made up my mind about how I feel about it)

Happy Camper!
We finished getting the last of the supplies this weekend, I'm sure there will be a couple of off the list things though once we go for the open house. Clothes wise, he's set, his birthday was last month and he always receives a lot of clothes so it saves me from having to buy them.

I took my sister to her 8th grade orientation a few years ago and I was shocked at the number of girls that had their belly buttons pierced and what they were wearing.

I am waiting until after the open house. Last year I got the list and dutifully bought everything on it, 2 red prong folders, 1 green folder with pockets, 3 red ball point pens blah blah. When we went to school for open house the teacher Boy had said that the list was a combined list from all the 2nd grade classes and he did not need half the crap we bought.

We have started boycotting the "buy my crap" sales the schools run. I'd rather give the teacher cash or supplies directly than have some company take 90% of my money for some sh!t I dodn't want or need in the first place.

I was actually considering that as well, but there is a list on the schools website... So I just printed that off...

That happened to us last year as well. I had a surplus of supplies from last year that I could use this year.:yay:

not sure what you mean by that. could you explain?
You know how every month or so they have a sales program? Where the kids sell some overpriced crap? We don't buy any, and don't sell any, unless it is something we actually WANT (like Joe Corby pizza). Instead, we give the money we woulda spent on that crap directly to the teacher (i.e. instead of buying $20.00 worth of stuff we don't want, we either give the teacher a $20.00 or $20.00 worth of school supplies that we know they need).

oh. i wasn't aware that there were schools doing that. does the money from the sale go to the teacher? I always just assumed that candy/pizza/whatever sales were for various groups within the schools like band or chorus or sports teams.
