Some of these lists are just getting crazy. Whatever happened to just needed new pencils, folders, notebooks, crayons, and markers?

The worst part is when you show up with all that crap the teacher says "I really don't require that stuff".

Not sure where you are, but in our school this year, they really cut down on all of that 'extra' stuff. The supply list is really basic stuff (pencils, crayons, folders, etc.), then there are a couple of items that are listed as 'Suggested Donation' items or something like that and those things include the wipes, dry-erase markers and ziploc bags. That's it though. Our lists don't include any paper and the most specific thing was when they specified the color folders for you to purchase.

clorox wipes, three different types of markers of which are all different colors, three different types of paper, specific brand of pencils..etc.

The Clorox wipes, Kleenex, hand sanitizer and other supplies have been on the list for years and are all part of the socialist doctrine in our publik schools where you pay for and bring in school supplies so the teacher can redistribute them 'equitably' to the entire class. Kind of makes you wonder exactly what your tax dollars are paying for doesn't it?

The rest of it is not so unusual although I've never had to buy a specific brand of pencil, as long as they were No. 2.

Exactly. So I buy my kids their own bottle of handsanitizer and put their name on it and ask them to keep it in their backpack.

When they were in elementry school I gave each of the teachers a gift card to wal mart for them to get any supplies they needed for the class room.

Tissues I can understand since the class can go through a lot of them especially during the cooler months.

It just seems the supply list keeps on growing every year with new items.

I didn't buy all the stuff that was on the list last year. Sorry but I am not providing dry erase markers, red pens, band aids or post it thingies.

At the end of this last school year I couldn't believe the supplies that were left. Normally they pass the stuff back out to the kids.. but nope not this time. They kept it all.. Stacks and stacks off paper were carried by kids and put into storage.

wait a second. they take the kids supplies? we used to bring everything in our backpacks or keep them in our desks. we never provided supplies to the school. that's ludicrous.

Yeah they take them and they become "community supplies". I don't do that either. They tell you not to label anything but I do anyway. I have done that since the first year they asked for plastic folders and some parents buy paper folders. So my kid ends up getting the paper ones even though I bought plastic. Which means I am buying more in a few weeks because paper folders are crap.

Throwing the deuces
I went out this week-end and got the supplies for my youngest who will be starting Kindergarten. I paid for the school (or whoever) to get my oldest's supplies. The list I got for my youngest was very generic on some stuff. Said 4 folders but didn't specify colors, said erasers but didn't specify number needed, etc. I think I might take Lusbymom's advice and put my son's name on the stuff I bought. Especially the scissors since he is left-handed and I don't want him given ones for righties.

In Kindergarten they throw all the stuff in bins... so it's not going to even matter if you put his name on it.

:ohwell: I bought scissors that could be used by both lefties and righties. Maybe I should mention to the teacher at the Meet-n-Greet that he's a lefty and to make sure he gets the right scissors. It wouldn't hurt, I suppose.
