School Supply Lists

They're out to get us
:ohwell: I bought scissors that could be used by both lefties and righties. Maybe I should mention to the teacher at the Meet-n-Greet that he's a lefty and to make sure he gets the right scissors. It wouldn't hurt, I suppose.

how evil of you!

Here's the 3rd grade list from our school. It's probably the smallest I've seen in years and will say the other grades seem to be pared down as well. I thought all the supplies were very reasonable. I know the red pens and highlighters are used by the kids, not the teachers, so I don't have a problem with that. At our school, the FSO has done a great job at providing the teachers with classroom money for extras.

Third Grade
2 boxes 7” colored pencils (12 count)
24 pre-sharpened #2 wooden pencils
1 box crayons – 24 count
4 large glue sticks
1 pair point-tipped scissors
4 black and white composition books (100 sheets)
5 plastic folders –2 red, 2 green, 1 yellow
1 pencil bag with zipper
1 red medium point pen
1 yellow highlighter
3 large pink erasers
Donations Requested
1 box 200 count tissues
1 bottle of waterless hand sanitizer
disinfectant wipes

Since they are typically all kept in a bin on the table (although some classes do it differently) you might suggest to the teacher that you could tie a piece of yarn or something on them to make them more easily identified.

Great idea! I will do that.

What's the ziploc bags for? The teacher's leftovers?

I remember all we needed to conquer elementary school was a pencil box, crayons, glue, scissors, small ruler, a big fat pencil and an eraser. Middle school added a protractor and compass and a notebook....maybe a fancy Trapper Keeper if I was lucky. Everything else was optional.

What the heck is that for? Cosmo? Since when do you need a magazine subscription to teach math, english and history? Utterly ridiculous!

Wouldn't it be nice if we could just go to a school store that had all the exact supplies and brands they are asking for and buy them there or write the school a check. I know that last part is laziness but when they are asking for specific brands :jameo:

I saw scissors in Wal-Mart's school supply section the other day that were "5 in 1" scissors. I think they were $.75. Scissors cut, but what other 4 things do they do?

In Kindergarten they throw all the stuff in bins... so it's not going to even matter if you put his name on it.
Guess it depends....I got all of my kids a nice pair of scissors before kindergarten and put their names on it. I got all of them back at the end of the year and sent them in the next year....My 6th grader still has his original pair of scissors.

Pencils, notebook paper, kleenex, wipes.....that stuff all became community property, but the crayons didn't. Last year, instead of sending in 40 pencils per kid, I sent 10 and kept the rest at home. A few months later, I sent a few more.
