Scooter Pie

Scooter Pie was a stray cat I befriended in my neighborhood.
She was a little, solid black, pregnant cat, who wandered from house to house looking for a hand out.
She also reduced tha bird and rabbit community by 1 each. She was a fast cat!
I just started feeding her about 2 weeks ago to keep her near by and was able to touch her just last week.
I had a vet appointment for her to be vetted and spayed, with plans to get her adopted out.

The plan was to pet her, do a quick scruff and plop her in a carrier and off to the vet.

I just ( n hour ago) found her dead on the road.
Clean kill, hit in the head.

Why can drivers slow to avoid killing animals?
I am so upset..and she was not even "my? cat.
Just last night, sitting on the patio, petting her as she ate, I heard her purr for the first time.

Now I have to go bury her.
I hate people who kill animals!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for lettimng me vent and tell Scooters story, as short as it is.

I understand you are upset, but don't understand how come you are assuming the cat was hit on purpose. :eyebrow:

Sorry to hear about Scooter, we just lost our kitty Fluffy, one of the sweetest cats ever. Unfortunately sometimes it's too late to stop. The thing I don't understand is why they don't let someone know and just drive off.

Don't know. Only time I'll attempt to avoid an animal is if it will cause damage to me or my vehical if I hit it.
Wrecking to avoid a small animal is a stupid thing to do.
it's called natural selection.

I'm sooo very sorry InkPen. :huggy: I know it hurts :frown: About 5 years ago I had worked on trying to make friends with an Orange cat I named Orange kitty and he was making good progress... I'd look forward to the time with him, trying to lure him closer every night with treats, earning his trust and trying not to have him skittish and scared 24/7 and was finally making progress after abuot 6 months and he got run over. I was devastated. Hang in there InkPen :huggy: :flowers: :huggy:

Nevermind. Now I understand your frustration, Owl. I keep forgetting there are drivers like Aps out there.

Aps, no one is expecting you to wreck your vehicle over it, but you are saying you don't even bother to slow down in an attempt to avoid impact. What an ass.

Don't you love the way people post replies in an obvious attempt to be mean or hurtful? I will never understand that.

Sorry about your kitty Inky.

And a lot of you could take a page from InkPen's book. She is a wonderful, caring lady!

When a wild animal (i.e. feral cat) darts out in front of you, the ONLY thing you can do is slam on your brakes. There is no time to "slow down". It's a decision to be made in a moment, not pondered over. In a corner or with other traffic around, slamming on your brakes can be fatal to PEOPLE.
Sorry the cat died, but blame whoever abandoned it, not the driver.

And...there are nice people who will stop to assist an animal. Just this morning Ott and I were leaving home when we came upon two cars stopped on the side of the road. Obviously a small animal had been hit..not sure if it was a dog or cat. The man, very well dressed, had removed his suit jacket and was covering the animal as he kneeled beside it.

Hey InkPen, I think there's websites where you can make a donation in your kitty's name to help other strays that have been rescued or in shelters. If you go this route, I'd add to your $$ contrition/donation in your kitty ScotterPie's name too. :huggy: Let me know if interested and I can try to look into this :huggy:

Straight stretch of road on Wilson Rd, broad daylight, black cat, no obstructions, ..would you see it?
Would you swerve 4 to 6" to avoid hitting it?
Or just be too busy not to see it?

Where did you find her? On Dares Beach?

Wilson Rd, up past Emmual Church..on the straight-away..right on the shoulder..another 3" and she would not have been hit.

Aps..slow down, take your helmet off and watch the road..and next time you hit an animal, take a moment and move it off the road.
The cat was a stray..no one owned it..I made an attempt to correct that.

I cried all day the other day cause I hit a squirrel. It was unavoidable. I can't imagine how I would have felt if I had hit somebody's pet. :huggy: to you Ink!

I try not to hit any animal and I doubt if the cat was just sitting in the road. I'm saying that if an animal darts out in front of me, I'm not going to wreck in an attempt to avoid it.

Had you posted this first no one would have had a negative thought or word for your. However, that is NOT at all what you implied with your first post. I agree with Catt... your intention was to jab at Inkpen for whatever sorry reason I really can't quite understand.
