Clarke's Landing has an awesome crabcake, but the rest of their seafood is terrible. I had the broiled platter last time I was there and the scallops and shrimp were cooked to within an inch of their lives.

If the shrimp and scallops were cooked to within an inch of their lives, wouldn't that mean they are still alive? Sounds pretty fresh to me!

I go on my seafood sprees when I am AWAY from SoMD. Dungeness Crabs, Halibut and Copper Creek Salmon in the Pacific Northwest. Lobster in Maine and the Maritimes. Plump Bluepoint Oysters from Long Island. Crawdads in the Gulf (but I have also been known to eat mushy Gulf oysters at 10 cents apiece at Acme or Felix in NOLA.) Cobia and Grouper in Florida. Best of all... Lake Perch, Walleye, Pickerel and Whitefish from the Great Lakes. I know this place in Saint Ignace, Michigan...

If you are into cooking it yourself, Woodburns on Solomons has the freshest and most varied selection of seafood, I've seen in the surrounding area!

Cooper Creek Salmon (some of the richest colored Salmon I've ever seen), Dungeness Crab, Ahai Tuna, Swordfish, Grouper, Halibut...

The only reason I suggested Red Lobster is because most of the local places around here specialize in Crabs and Crab Cakes, (which are very good for the most part) and the rest of the seafood on the menu tends to be mediocre at best. Red Lobster will at least have a variety of sea food to choose from (although not great as I said) and the prices are on par with many of the local joints. Prior to re-locating here I was really looking forward to the sea food, now after living in the area for a year I'm just disappointed. For a location surrounded by water the sea food menus at most of the restaurants seems very limited in selection and the prices are high.

That night was the first night I have ever been disappointed there. The crabcake I had was great, but the Bourbon Street scallops were so overdone as to be almost inedible as were the BBQ shrimp. I'm hoping it was just a fluke. :ohwell:

Price? You could always go to the golden arches and get your self a fish sandwich.

I always find it funny when someone who isn't from around here doesn't like something about Southern Maryland. They get pelted with the standard response of "Move away" or "Eat at McDonalds". It is like the locals take great offense to someone not being completely in love with this place; as if someone would actually move away because there isn't a decent seafood place around here.

That is pretty typical of anywhere I'd say. People in general like to defend the place they are from. It is the reason most people like their hometown team.
