Ass-hole
I remember going shopping there as a kid, going to the mall was a big deal. Is a shame it was ruined.

Surprised it lasted that long- I went there with my then wife when I first got stationed at Andrews in '94. We felt VERY out of place. Then some guy was following us insisting we buy some jewelry from him. We left in a hurry and never went back.

What was the name of the restaurant that was in the corner and served monogolian BBQ. House of Lee or Lu or something like that. Another childhood/teenage memory torn down.

It used to be a very nice mall in the 70's. In the mid-80's, it started to go downhill. I bought my prom dress from that mall.

What about Farrells Ice Cream. If you ordered the "Pigs trough" (or something like that) it was delivered on a stretcher that they ran around the restaurant with while a siren blared! :yahoo:

I remember how dark Landover Mall was...mostly brown tiles I think and I don't remember skylights. I think I remember fountains with tons of pennies in them? And yes, I certainly remember Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour! We went as kids for a birthday party and I remember they brought out this huge platter with an ice cream mountain on it. It even had little plastic men with picks climing up it.

I know 4 people who have been mugged/robbed. 3 of those muggings/robberies occurred in the mid to late 70s at Landover Mall or the parking lot.

I was a kid in the mid to late 70's and only remember how terrible it got in the early/mid 80's. Stores were closing in the 80's and there was the Jamaican drug gangs all in that Section 8 housing close by. I never returned after that shooting of 5 or 6 that was in the section 8 housing complex nearby. When I got caught going up there for a prom dress, I got in pretty big trouble with my dad. My father told me (which could have been a scare tactic because he loved doing that) that there had been shootings INSIDE the mall before.

What is strange is the mall opened just before I was born and is already torn down and gone now. See, if I was a building, I would have been hauled off as rubbish already. :twitch:

Here are some pictures of the inside when it was nice!

is closing... now granted, most don't care but when I was growing up, Landover mall was a pretty cool place to go. Now that Sears is leaving, it is official, the old mall is gone!

Liquidation sale starts this Friday and doors will close for good in March of this year.

I too remember it pretty well. I remember when it first opened up and was a nice change from Iverson Mall in Marlow Heights. It was sad watching it's downfall.

Why did the mall 'go downhill'?

Was there a sinkhole or some other natural disaster?
