Probably some idiot that didn't understand the breed so the dog pays. A story that is repeated too often.

And winds up in more people's hands who don't understand the breed.... or sometimes dogs in general. Dobes are notoriously defensive. Hit one, expect to get bit. Threaten one, and they may just mean a stranger's encroachment, expect an aggressive response. They are not Goldens or Labs and should not reasonably be expected to respond as they would.

You know what is sad? When I adopted Gazelle (pure bred Dobe) from HS of Ramsey County, MN they had listed her as a lab X. ???? I told them "This dog is obviously a Dobermann, why is she listed as a Lab X?"

Their reply?

"She doesn't have pointed ears. They look like a Labs."

No joke. And the ignorance is NOT isolated. We treat these peole like they are the bearers of the holy grail of dog knowledge, but the reality is....

Actually I shouldn't make fun of this because I honestly don't know all of the dog breeds myself - but then again I do mostly cat rescue.

Buggy is a bully X. Good chance they would not have adopted him out had they recieved him. Think about that.

Recall he came from P G County, where part of his "possible" breed mix is banned. They really felt sorry for him because he's he's such a sweetie. He was held extra long too, so he's a lucky boy. I hope to get settled in a bigger place soon so I can get him a buddy to play with. He really LIKES to play with other dogs.

I want to take him to PGAC when I renew his license in case the worker there who helped save him is there so he can see her again. She used to walk him every day she was there at work. I think she'd probably be happy to see how much weight he's gained and how good he looks now after a year?

I'm pretty sure I saw a minpin at TCAS a few weeks ago, but I assume they know to call you guys on those. Cute little thing it was! I want one of those one day.
