Throwing the deuces
No, it's just there is a naturally occuring rate of left-handedness and it seems that ultrasound does have an effect on that rate. Left-handedness, particularly in boys, is associated with delayed speech and success in school early on though typically they do catch up in a few years.
There is still so much we do not know about early fetal development and environmental impact. If ultrasound is affecting the fetal brain in terms of left-handedness, what other things are being affected? Ultrasound can be a useful tool but I fear it is now more of a money maing venture for cash-strapped GYN's and in the majority of cases, they do not improve prenatal care.
Well, being a left-handed female, it thrilled me to no end to end up with one left-handed son. He doesn't suffer from speech delay or learning problems. I have a hard time believing most of the stuff they attribute to left-handedness and I don't try to come up with excuses for it. It is what it is and I go on and adjust when needed.
