Sex offenders sue to hand out Halloween candy

Well, I tell you what. I did not make this law. I did not approve it, and as a citizen of the United States of America, I categorically oppose it.

I am also an honorably discharged military veteran, among other things, and once took an oath to "uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic". What do I do when the enemy is our own fear-mongering legislative process? When my rights and the rights of my wife and children are infringed because some politician wants to arm the populace with pitchforks and torches?

Oh please, a college senior necking with a freshman - some big crime there.

I agree that we really need to re-evaluate what we consider a "sex crime" in this retarded country, but in the meantime I really don't want pedos luring children to their homes with the promise of candy.

Ideally someone like FoF would ask to have his status re-evaluated and the "sex offender" designation removed. But I fully believe these people who are #####ing about not being able to hand out candy are full-fledged real sex offenders, and not just statutories. Why else would they care so much about being able to get kids to their house?

Besides the smarties who skip grades and might go early. The September cutoff for Kindergarten started after I went to school (St. Mary's Co). So I was 17 for a month in college. People with later birthdays might not have even turned 18 until December. Almost all schools require students to be 5 now before September to enter Kindergarten, but many years ago it wasn't as wide spread as it is now.

No, I am ashamed to say she was actually 15, as I found out later; the party was a week before her 16th birthday, and she was at the college in some sort of "advanced placement" program. Regardless, I screwed up. It was my fault. I own that. No excuses. I broke the law and paid the price.

My problem is the harm being done to my innocent family because of something from 2 decades ago that they had nothing to do with.

I appreciate that, but I have already tried. If you do some research, you will find that, although there may be a process for "re-evaluation" of one's SO registry status, no one has ever successfully used it and ggotten off the registry. NO politician wants to commit political suicide by being the one that let "So-and-so" off the registry.

Also, my problem has not much to do with me passing out candy, but instead iwht my children not feeling ostracized because of a mistake I made long long ago. "The sins of the father shall be visited upon the sons, and their sons..."

And yes, my wife knew about my past when we were married, but at the time the laws were not so strict, and I was going to be off the registry soon. Now, they have all changed. Ex Post Facto doesn;t even apply, since being on the registry is not a "punishment" according to the Supreme Court.

And regardless, my children had no choice.

Yes, I did. I have wanted a family my whole life, and they are the bright spot of my whole existance. Maybe I was selfish, but I would not trade them for anything in the world. And, I will fight for them tooth and nail, regardless of the "woulda coulda shoulda".

Bottom line is the registry is crap. Many of the folks on the registry dont need tto be there, and many of the MOST dangerous ones have not been caught. Meanwhile, my kids are facing a really difficult time in the near future, and this messed up registry is causing it.

I don't think they should prosecute statutory anyway, especially when the two parties are reasonably close in age. BUT until that law is changed, that's just the way it is. Another zero-tolerance stupidity from the lazy judges who don't want to actually judge.
