Sex offenders sue to hand out Halloween candy

Obama destroyed America
Well, I tell you what. I did not make this law. I did not approve it, and as a citizen of the United States of America, I categorically oppose it.

I am also an honorably discharged military veteran, among other things, and once took an oath to "uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic". What do I do when the enemy is our own fear-mongering legislative process? When my rights and the rights of my wife and children are infringed because some politician wants to arm the populace with pitchforks and torches?

Oh please, a college senior necking with a freshman - some big crime there. :bigwhoop:

I agree that we really need to re-evaluate what we consider a "sex crime" in this retarded country, but in the meantime I really don't want pedos luring children to their homes with the promise of candy.

Ideally someone like FoF would ask to have his status re-evaluated and the "sex offender" designation removed. But I fully believe these people who are #####ing about not being able to hand out candy are full-fledged real sex offenders, and not just statutories. Why else would they care so much about being able to get kids to their house?
Whoaaa....don't yell at me. I was just answering his question. :cds:

I happen to agree that a 21 y.o. and a 17 y.o. should not be considered a sex crime.

I do have to ask, how she was in college at 17? Due to my October birthday, I was always younger than my classmates and I was 17 my senior year of HS.

Besides the smarties who skip grades and might go early. The September cutoff for Kindergarten started after I went to school (St. Mary's Co). So I was 17 for a month in college. People with later birthdays might not have even turned 18 until December. Almost all schools require students to be 5 now before September to enter Kindergarten, but many years ago it wasn't as wide spread as it is now.

No, I am ashamed to say she was actually 15, as I found out later; the party was a week before her 16th birthday, and she was at the college in some sort of "advanced placement" program. Regardless, I screwed up. It was my fault. I own that. No excuses. I broke the law and paid the price.

My problem is the harm being done to my innocent family because of something from 2 decades ago that they had nothing to do with.

I appreciate that, but I have already tried. If you do some research, you will find that, although there may be a process for "re-evaluation" of one's SO registry status, no one has ever successfully used it and ggotten off the registry. NO politician wants to commit political suicide by being the one that let "So-and-so" off the registry.

Also, my problem has not much to do with me passing out candy, but instead iwht my children not feeling ostracized because of a mistake I made long long ago. "The sins of the father shall be visited upon the sons, and their sons..."

Should've thought about that before heavily petting a 15 year old. Did your wife know that she was marrying a registered sex offender? If so, then she knew the laws and what she was getting into as well.

I once fooled around with a 15 year old hottie too, but then again I was 11. Hey! She took advantage of me!

Thank you for your compassion.

Actually, when the crime occurred, the registry had just been invented. Remember back to 1992?

And yes, my wife knew about my past when we were married, but at the time the laws were not so strict, and I was going to be off the registry soon. Now, they have all changed. Ex Post Facto doesn;t even apply, since being on the registry is not a "punishment" according to the Supreme Court.

And regardless, my children had no choice.

I have no compassion for you. You made the choice to have them and raise them in the environment of a registered sex offender.

And yes, I remember back to 1992. I was 15 and if my father would've found out that some 20 year old dude was heavily petting me, you would've gotten your ass beat across the state...and my mother would've slapped me so hard my head would've done a 180.

Yes, I did. I have wanted a family my whole life, and they are the bright spot of my whole existance. Maybe I was selfish, but I would not trade them for anything in the world. And, I will fight for them tooth and nail, regardless of the "woulda coulda shoulda".

Bottom line is the registry is crap. Many of the folks on the registry dont need tto be there, and many of the MOST dangerous ones have not been caught. Meanwhile, my kids are facing a really difficult time in the near future, and this messed up registry is causing it.

Yup. Tell you the truth, I would much rather have had an asswhooping, or several, instead of watching my children suffer.

Not looking for compassion for ME, stockgirl, but for my children and my wife. Is that too much to ask? That innocent children not be bullied, ostracized, marginalized because of something that happened 2 decades before they were born?

Oh stop it. How many of the guys you pick up at bars do you card? She was at a college party, drinking; it is reasonable to assume FoF thought she was college age.

I don't think they should prosecute statutory anyway, especially when the two parties are reasonably close in age. BUT until that law is changed, that's just the way it is. Another zero-tolerance stupidity from the lazy judges who don't want to actually judge.

ALL RIGHT you two; play nice or I'll have to separate you.

You are both missing the point. It doesn;t matter WHAT I did, forgiveable or unforgiveable. What matters is that this idiotic law is hurting innocent people. Period. Children. Wives. Husbands (in some cases) Parents. Relatives.

You want to make it even? Put EVERYBODY'S history out there. Everything. Every traffic ticket, every late library book, everything. Everything they have ever clicked on the internet, every book they have ever read, all of it. Total transparency. Then, let those with no flaws whatsoever cast the first stone.

We're fine. Vrai has the power to separate me. This I know for a fact. :lmao:

While I still feel no compassion for you, I do agree that the government should let you appeal your registration after so many years.

It's not like she was 20 and he was 25. I certainly would not allow my daughter to date a 20 year old when she's 15.

So what happens when she sneaks out, lies about her age, and does it anyway?

And it doesn't sound like they were "dating", otherwise he'd have known how old she was before he started necking with her.

I'll beat the crap out of her and him.

Besides, I've learned from my parents' mistakes. There will be no sneaking out at my house.
