Shelia Jackson Lee ....

you would quickly be labeled as hating Africans and shouted off the stage

Not so. Ron Paul used to do it about drugs but, the GOP does NOT support any of this. Why? The GOP supports the welfare state because it's good for business. Same thing for prohibition. Same thing for the military/industrial complex. Same thing for the ACA which GOP'ers are getting to like more and more as potential profits reveal themselves.

Graduated from Yale. Law Degree from University of Virginia - one of the best law schools in the world. Probably NOT stupid, but probably highly likely to speak before thinking.
And ferociously partisan, which in my opinion, ALWAYS leads to saying stupid things.

It's one thing to say something stupid "We have to pass this bill to find out what's in it". It's quite another thing to just get the facts wrong. Someone supposedly as smart as Lee, you don't get a law degree by screwing up the facts. If she purposely misstated this, then what would have been her motive for saying something so historically wrong?

Actually going back and listening to Lee talk, I don't think she was saying the constitution is 400 years old... I think she is talking about the ideal of this nation from the beginning, and the efforts towards a constitutional government lasting for 400 years.

Huh?...up until only a very few decades before the revolution, there was no consideration that this place was anything but colonial. There was no "idea of an independent nation" 400 years ago..or even 300 years ago. Even as the revolution was being fought, the British were attending lavish balls and parties in places like New York City where the pro-crown locals were a majority. That wasn't even 250 years ago.

She is a maroon.

If Obaba gave her a Democrat branded turd burger she would eat it on national TV and smile. Everyone watching would think; What a dumb ass, she is eating poop on a seasame seed bun.

Not everyone. There is a majority of our population that would be clamoring for their own turd burger, and turd burgers would become all the rage.

Great point. I have often pondered the question; How is it possible Pelosi, the most stupid person in the world, is in such a position? She is not stupid, she just sounds supid because she is single minded and driven. If Obaba gave her a Democrat branded turd burger she would eat it on national TV and smile. Everyone watching would think; What a dumb ass, she is eating poop on a seasame seed bun.

Have you seen the movie, The Help?

I wasn't saying she was factually correct in any interpretation of this. I'm just seeing that she isn't necessarily talking about the constitution being 400 years old.

I doubt that even she knows what she is really talking about. I would expect her staff will meet with her and suggest to her what she really said.

I was commenting on the COUNTLESS numbers of times I have heard African Americans who, while discussing race, will automatically declare "400 years of racism" or some such similar phrasing, when what they are referring to is the arrival on our shores of the first colonists, which - not accurately, I might say - coincides with the beginning of slavery. I think if you're the sort of person who habitually refers to the New World as 400 years old, you might mix it in with the Constitution even while fully aware of the date it was made law.

Historically, the first African slaves (there already were Native American slaves) arrived in the New World - in the Caribbean. They'd be there another hundred years before the English established permanent settlements elsewhere.
why don't we ever talk about the white/European slaves (10 - 18 million) for about 1300 years in Africa and Asia? That ended maybe 50 years after the U.S. outlawed slavery, and about 100 years after the U.S. outlawed the importation of slaves.

There are still slaves in Muslim countries of the world.

At least she didn't think it is 20 centuries old like our president said.

I knew when I saw the name Sheile Lee that this would be stupid.

If she were really worried about the guns being used by killers she would be asking blacks to stop shooting each other in drug deals and gang fights.

Lina Hidalgo to endorse Sheila Jackson Lee for Houston mayor

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is set to formally endorse Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee for mayor of Houston.

Hidalgo is expected to make the official announcement at an event in Mickey Leland Memorial Park on Thursday.

The Harris County judge has a strained relationship with Jackson Lee’s main rival for the seat, State Sen. John Whitmire. Whitmire declined to support Hidalgo during her run for re-election last year, even though both are Democrats. Earlier this week, Whitmire announced an endorsement from former Congressman Gene Green.

Will the Houston area send another idiot like SJL to congress ?

Sheila Jackson Lee Caught Viciously Verbally Abusing a Staffer in Secret Recording

I know there will be some people who listen to the tape and dismiss it as someone just losing their cool in private. That's no excuse, in my opinion. The U.S. Congress is supposed to be a professional setting, and how you treat people when others aren't looking says a lot. It's one thing to get upset about something impactful in a high-stress situation. It's a completely different thing to freak out and verbally abuse a staffer over a calendar issue. Normal people don't react that way in that situation.

Is this who Houston really wants to make their mayor? That city is already struggling enough as it is with crime and other issues caused by Democratic Party governance. Voters there would be wise to take this recording as a warning and look elsewhere.

On a broader note, Lee's behavior is indicative of the toxic culture among many Washington politicians. Many of those representing the nation are just genuinely bad people. They are people who never would have made it in the real world and have instead made their bones taking advantage of a system that rewards the kind of racial resentment and irrational anger Lee consistently peddles.
