Shooting range

you need a permit or license just to go shooting??

You need a permit to use the public range. On par with needing a licence to fish or hunt. You hand them a small amount of money, they give you a permit for the year- or the day if you'd prefer- on the spot. No regulations aside from a being a resident of legal age.

Oops, I'm way late.

What caliber weapons?? I may have a place. It's not a range, but if you'll help measure it out. All kidding aside, a friend has 600 acres in Mechanicsville. His Dad just passed so he inherited over 1400 acres total. We were talking before his Dad died and I suggested turning the 600 acre parcel into a skeet/rifle/pistol range. It could be done pretty easily. I hunt there almost all alone. He is going to have to do something with the property. Right now, its a couple of soybean fields that don't produce squat. LOTS AND LOTS of deer, many turkey, and some awesome dove/duck/goose hunting. He!!, the fishin' aint bad either.:lmao: And don't get me started on the crabbin'.

It can be done easily and without problem legally, but if he wants to go commercial it will take insurance.
To get insurance for a range nowadays, it takes expensive eviromental and safety features.
A new commercial range can be done, but it takes investment.

If he just wants a range where he and his friends can shoot, then Maryland law is not very restrictive in this respect and is easy as making sure you are far enough from your neighbors first or simply have their prior permission.

If he is looking for people that want to shoot on his property, then I know of at least one right off the bat........me!
I'll even help out measuring ;)

7.62X39mm 154 Gr SP.

Seriously, I have about 500 rounds sitting in the bottom of my closet and have been for some time. I also have about 300 or so for the .22 and a few for the 12 ga.

So... "starting from scratch" meaning you're looking to aquire firearms and learn to use them, or just to learn to use firearms? Need to know what direction to point you in.

I take it your father owns firearms? Though I'm sure that he'd want to go with you and show you if asked to borrow. I'm also sure that there are a number of people on here that would do just that- myself included. My problem is, that both of the handguns I own are black powder and neither are in the best of shape. Though, if a place could be aquired, I'd go with you and show you how to use a rifle. My Marlin Model 60 has almost zero recoil: My Beeman air-rifle has more kick that it does.

I just would like to learn how to use them. If you could do that, that would be great.

Although your A/V scares me

If somebody coughs up some land, I don't have a problem with that.

As for the av, I have a very dark sense of humor, so I find it hilarious.
